Rational:
During my first year of teaching, my main goal is going to be to complete an induction
program. This is so important because I only have five years to clear my credential! I plan to
use many of the artifacts and the observations taken from my induction coach to add to my
PDQP portfolio. I also want to reach out to other staff members who are not directly in my
second-grade team to familiarize myself with the school and to show that I am a team player.
There is also a lot to learn from other teachers and administrators even if they are not teaching
the same grade-level as me. For example, it would be in my best interest to get familiar with the
first-grade teachers and the third-grade teachers seeing as the students from first grade will be
coming to me next year and my students will be going to third grade the next year. The first-
grade teachers can tell me what the students have learned and any students that have special
learning styles. I can also see from the third-grade teachers what the students will be expected to
know when they enter so I know what to spend most of my time on teaching. In my first year I
also wish to develop more classroom activities that take less teacher-prep time to save myself
from time spent in my classroom outside of my work day! Currently, I am working about 11-
hour days because I have so much prep to do and not any prep periods to do so. Next year, I
should be slightly more familiar with second grade so I will have an easier time finding activities
materials and resources to make my days a little shorter and my life a little easier, but I also
would like to focus my attention on becoming more involved in the school and the school
community. I would like to volunteer for jobs like pick-up and drop-off monitor in the morning
and after-school. This way I can spend more time with the students in a relaxed and causal
environment, and I can get a little bit of face-time with the parents and other staff members. This
will help build my rapport with students, their parents, and staff members. I would also like to
teaching possibilities.
education. I think it is important to educate myself about the best practices of teaching English
Language Learners and students with special needs because every classroom I teach will bound
to have at least one of each. In order for all my students to feel included, welcomed, and
supported, I must be familiar and trained in how to teach these students the way that they learn.
My third year of teaching will also be an appropriate time for self-reflection. I plan to develop
better and more practical means of communication with parents and other staff members as well
as reflect on my teaching style and how I can improve in areas where I am weakest.
I also plan to join a committee or team on campus that deals with more than just the classroom.
For example, I may decide to become a team leader, or maybe the technology ambassador so that
I can help support others and spread my knowledge among the team. I think this would help me
grow as an educator and would create a stronger bond between myself and the people I work
with. I could also volunteer to coach a team sport for the school, like soccer.

In my fifth year of teaching, I plan to seek loan forgiveness! With the TEACH grant, if I
work in a low-income district for 5 consecutive years, I can apply for partial loan forgiveness.
My current school is in a verified, low-income district so if I stay here for 5 years I will be able
to do this! I also want to go back to school eventually for an authorization in teaching students
with Autism. I need to see where my life brings me before I commit to this decision, but it is
instruction for English Language learners, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented
students. The presentation was intended for a professional audience and could be used for a
professional development meeting. The presentation discusses theories for best practices and
practical ways to implement new strategies in the classroom. I feel that this presentation really
