THE IDENTITY OF THE UPS PROFESSIONAL REGARDING PROFESSIONAL,

FAMILY AND SOCIAL SENSE OF THE PROFESSION

The UPS is an institution of higher education of Christian inspiration, with a Catholic character

and Salesian nature that promotes the development of the human person and the cultural heritage

of society through research, teaching, continuing higher education and the various services offered

to the local, national and international community. The UPS is present to accompany young people

at the most decisive moment of their maturation process by offering them their educational and

charismatic heritage. That is why the UPS is characterized by the option of young people from the

popular classes, by the academic communities with a clear Salesian identity, by the Salesian-

oriented institutional project and by its educational-pastoral intentionality.

The Salesian community guarantees a rigorous and critical intellectual style, is inspired by an

interdisciplinary methodology for research as well as for teaching, in cooperative work and in co-

responsibility in academics, in organization and in management. Students are required to

participate as protagonists and stewards in the scientific and cultural, educational and social

commitment of the university institution. Teachers are required to integrate professional

competence, capacity for research, teaching and education, sensitivity to the youth world and

ability to welcome young people and presence among them, commitment to solidarity and justice,

coherence of life with the evangelical values. Promote an environment in which the human person

is placed as a center, where dialogue and collaboration are the basis of the method, in which the

presence of teacher guides awakens in young people the love of truth and lifetime.

The UPS seeks to promote a conception of the human person inspired by the Gospel that puts

it at the center of life and promotes it in its integrity, as well as an ethical conscience based on

values that emphasize the promotion of justice and a culture of solidarity through a model of

sustainable development on a human scale, of relationships of equality and reciprocity, and of

quality of life; promote a dialogue between different cultures and religions, between culture-

science-technique and faith capable of illuminating Christian reality and life or inculturating the

Gospel; promote special attention to education, to the education of educators, to the field of

technology and work, and to the world of communication.

The UPS also aims to a) create a rich environment of human values, including family spirit; b)

the rigorous approach of the research, of the formative curricula and of the contents of the teaching

in consonance with a transcendent vision of the human person and of life; c) an interdisciplinary

cultural dialogue among the various academic subjects, including those of an ethical, religious and

theological nature. Another mission of the UPS is based on the service of quality to human and

professional training of young people and the specific impact they are able to have in society

according to the characteristics that shape their nature and identity. The UPS requires a)

concentrate efforts in research and teaching fields selected among the areas of knowledge most in

line with the Salesian mission; b) promote specific projects that stimulate the involvement of other

social, educational, economic forces at the local level in favor of promotion and popular education.

In general, the UPS seeks to be an institution of higher education of reference in the exploration

of the veracity and progress of scientific and technological research and culture; socially

recognized for its academic quality. Its primary objective and mission is to train professionals with

excellent human quality and honest beings with academic and research capacity that contribute to

local and national development
