If I were a princess, I would live in a palace. -> I am not a princess -> unreal -> I won’t live in a palace -> impossible NOTES - If clause: to be -> were E.g. If today were Monday, I would be in class now. - Main clause: could/ might can also be used instead of would E.g. If I won the lottery, I could/might travel to South Africa to enjoy the World Cup. - If clause can come before or after main clause. E.g. If I were you, I would try my best. I would try my best if I were you. III. PRACTICE Activity 1: Expected answer: C-C-A-B 1. C. If he saw the wallet in the street, he would give it to the police. 2. C. If I were the president of my country, I would meet the leaders of many countries. 3. A. If they were alive, they would create more masterpieces. 4. B. If I could play rugby, I would play for that team.
