ABSTRACT:
Home automation is a topic which is gaining popularity day by day, because of
large advantages. One can achieve home automation by simply connecting home
appliance electrical devices to the internet or cloud storage. The reason for this
surge demand of network enabled home automation is reaching the zenith in
recent days for its simplicity and comparable affordability. Platforms based on
cloud computing help to connect to the thing’s surroundings everyone so that one
can find it easy to access anything and everything at any time and place in a user-
friendly manner using custom defined portals. Hence, cloud act as a front end to
access IOT. Here we are assuming a system which can control devices through
wireless based network or cloud-based approach. In this project we use IOT based
home automation system which goal is to develop a home automation system that
gives the user complete control over all remotely controllable aspects of his or
her home. The automation system will have ability to be controlled from a mobile
based application.

• INTRODUCTION:
The concept of Internet of things(IoT) was introduced by the growth of the widely
used global network known as the internet along with the deployment of
ubiquitous computing and mobiles in smart objects which brings new
opportunities for the creation of innovative solutions to various aspects of life.
The concept of Internet of things(IoT) creates a network of objects that can
communicate, interact and cooperate to reach a common goal. IoT devices can
enhance our daily lives, as each device stops acting as a single device and become
part of an entire full connected system. This provides us with the resulting data
to be analyzed for better decision making, tracking our businesses and monitoring
our properties while we are far away from them.

• OBJECTIVE:
The main objective of this project is to build a smart home device using ESP
8266 WiFi Module which can be used to control the home appliances via
internet.

• HARDWARE REQUIRED:

▪ ESP8266 WiFi Module

▪ LM1117-3.3V
▪ Sugar Cube Relay – Qty.4
▪ Connectors Qty. 5
▪ 12V Power Supply
▪ 4 Bulbs
▪ 4 Bulb Holder
▪ Jumper wires

• SOFTWARE REQUIRED:
▪ Arduino IDE
▪ Blynk android application

• WORKING PRINCIPLE:
There are various techniques to control home appliances such as IOT based home
automation over the cloud, home automation under WiFi through android apps
from any smartphone, Arduino based home automation, home automation by
android application based remote control, home automation using digital control,
RF based home automation system and touch screen-based home automation.
Wireless home automation using IOT is an innovative application of internet of
things developed to control home appliances remotely over the cloud. Wi-Fi
(Wireless Fidelity) is a wireless networking technology used for exchanging the
information between two or more devices without using cables or wires. There
are various Wi-Fi technologies like Wi-Fi 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and
802.11n. Here, in this project Wi-Fi module is used to receive commands from
the internet and activate loads through Relay by executing a program written
within the Wi-Fi module. Hence, no microcontroller is used in this project to drive
loads.

• ESP 8266 WiFI Module:

ESP8266 is an UART-WiFi transparent transmission module with ultralow

power consumption, specially designed for the needs of a new connected world.
It offers a complete and self-contained Wi-Fi networking solution, allowing it to
either host the application or to offload all Wi-Fi networking functions from
another application processor.
ESP8266 has powerful on-board processing and storage capabilities that allow it
to be integrated with the sensors and other application specific devices through
its GPIOs with minimal development up-front and minimal loading during
runtime. Its high degree of on-chip integration allows for minimal external
circuitry, and the entire solution, including front-end module, is designed to
occupy minimal PCB area. ESP8266 Serial Wifi Wireless Transceiver Module is
suitable for Uno, Mega 2560 and Nano.
