Widening Access Centre Profi Project Summer Internship 2018-19

Project Title: Student Engagement Intern

Proposed Working Pattern: Flexible working patterns available between Monday to Friday.

Description:

The Profi Project builds confidence and develops employability skills within young people who are at risk of
becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). The project works with local schools, Bangor University
Students, local businesses and organisations. Profi is a hands-on learning programme where participants work on
real life issues relating to young people and so we wanted to use this method with our internship opportunity. We
are looking for candidates to be passionate about working with others, problem solving and be ready to work
creatively.

We require an intern within the Profi Project to assist in the development of a new recruitment campaign to improve
project support, the intern will look into creating a new recruitment campaign to enrol Students to mentor Profi
project participants, taking into account all avenues for example volunteering, paid work.

The intern will need to engage with previous volunteers and facilitators to establish project pros and cons to develop
a new and improved system for recruitment to ensure the project offers good opportunities, experience and quality
of service to all participating.

The student will also look into developing the training package and will organise the training in line with project
recruitment.

Intern Role:

Researching ideas for recruitment; liaising with past project volunteers to gain feedback and understanding of the
process; draft a recruitment timeline taking into account time pressures; research into mentoring and coaching
techniques; researching into local organisations that support school events for example Big Ideas Wales; networking
with organisations and businesses and working closely with the Students Union and UMCB.

Facilities/working environment:

Will work from the Widening Access Centre and Profi Project office within Main Arts. Will be required to attend
different events during the internship period.
