 LETTER OF MOTIVATION
Dear IFMSA family,
It is with great pleasure to tell you about our motivation for hosting the
68th IFMSA March Meeting 2019. The Slovenian Medical Students’
International Committee has been an active participant in numerous
international meetings of IMFSA since our beginnings in 1952. Every single
meeting has left us mesmerized not only by the sessions or trainings we
attended and amazing people we have met throughout the meetings but
also by the amount of work and dedication that the OCs were putting into
organizing and supporting these events.

In the past we were discussing what would hosting one thousand people
mean for a small NMO like SloMSIC in a small country of Slovenia –
where would we even accommodate this amount of people and where
would we get enough people to work in preparing such an event? Luckily,
times have changed. Both local committees of SloMSIC have grown – in
number of partners, activities and most importantly – active, young,
passionate and motivated members. A small number of local committees
has shown not to be a limit for expanding our capacities in growing
number of active members, which is currently reaching close to one
thousand.

Asking ourselves: what to do with all of this motivation, energy and passion
of our members, we came to an answer: the best thing is to put it to a good
use, challenge it from time to time so it has a chance to grow and show how
extraordinary the results of their work can be.

Because of this we are ready. Ready to gather our members who are
eager to challenge themselves and dedicate their time to make March
Meeting 2019 a nonforgettable experience for all delegations and
show you how lovely our sLOVEnia is.

Yours sincerely,
SloMSIC sLOVEnia 3

2019 will be an important year for the Faculty of Medicine

in Ljubljana, the first medical faculty in Slovenia, as it will
be celebrating its 100th anniversary. In 1919 it was one of
the five faculties that formed the University of Ljubljana,
the first fully Slovenian university. Hence, it is all the more
important for us to celebrate this milestone together with
the whole IFMSA family.

EXPERIENCE
THE STORY
OF LOVE
Slovenia is the first country in the world to be
declared a green destination based on the Green
Destinations Criteria. Situated in the heart of
Europe, Slovenia is a boutique country between
the Alps, Mediterranean Sea, Karst with more than
11,000 karst caves and Pannonian Plain, rich in
water springs. We are also proud that our capital
Ljubljana was awarded the European Green
Capital 2016 title.

Welcome to Slovenia,
the only country with LOVE in its name!

 ABOUT SLOVENIA
The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where
the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonian plains
and Karst. The highest mountain is called Triglav - the name
meaning "three-heads" - and it is 2864 m high. The mountain
is a true national symbol, featured on the national coat of
arms and the flag.

In Slovenia, the sun shines approximately 2,000 hours per

year. And green is the dominant colour. There are many
forests in Slovenia – covering more than half of the country
– and numerous preserved and protected plant and animal
species. The country is also known for its great wines and
delicious traditional food.

Slovenia makes a great tourist destination. You can ski in the

morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic
Sea in the afternoon.

HOW TO GET TO
SLOVENIA
By plane
As Slovenia is a small country it has only one major
airport - the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU),
which is served by a handful of the major airlines
in addition to the Slovenian national carrier - Adria
Airways.

Transport will not only be provided from the local

airport to the venue, but also from the international
airport in Trieste (Italy).

When checking for flights also check nearby airports

(e.g. Zagreb, Venice, Vienna, even Milan or Munich)
as they are only a few hours drive away and there
are plenty of inexpensive transfer options.

By bus
Because of its central location in Europe Slovenia is
easily reachable by low-cost, long distance bus lines
which are a reasonably priced and comfortable
option to travel accross the continent
