Lesson Plan

• Name of lesson: Trigonometry Graphs

• Grade Level Appropriateness: 10

• Technology Content Standard Addressed: Research and Information Fluency: Students apply

digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

• Other Content Standard Addressed: Know and graph trigonometry functions of sine, cosine,

and tangent.

• Objective: Students will learn how to graph with a graphing technology. Students will learn

how to graph Sine, Cosine, and Tangent graphs. The goal is to understand what each graph looks

like and why.

• Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: iPad and/or computers, graphing worksheet, topic

notes, and Kahoot! access code.

• Suggested group size: 1

• Procedures:

o Hand out iPad or Computers to students.

o State objective: Students will learn how to graph Sine, Cosine, and Tangent graphs.

o Review: What is the unit circle?

o Answer - The unit circle is the circle whose center is at the origin and whose

radius is one. If a point on the circle is on the terminal side of an angle, then the sine of

the angle is the y-coordinate of the point, and the cosine of the angle is the x-coordinate

of the point. Tangent of the angle is the y-coordinate divide by the x-coordinate.

o Hand out graph worksheets to students. Show students how to open Desmos app or go to

Desmos website (desmos.com).

o Show students how to select a point and see its coordinates on y = x graph.

o Show students how to change graph step to pi. Click on wrench tool, find X- Axis

section, type in “pi” for step.

o Students will then type every equation from the worksheet into Desmos and draw the

graph onto the corresponding section.

o When students are done, review what they noticed. What do the functions look like when

graphed? What happens when you add or subtract inside the parenthesis? What happens

when you add or subtract outside the parenthesis? What happens when you add a

negative to the front? Compare these actions to parabolas.

o Notes Presentation

o Section 1 – The basics of graphing trig functions.

○ Section 2 – Basic Sine, Cosine, and Tangent graphs.

○ Section 3 – Moving the graph up or down

○ Section 4 – Moving the graph left or right

○ Section 5 – Negative functions

○ Section 6 – Amplitude and Period

○ Section 7 – Domain and Range

• Assessment: Have students go to Kahoot! and provide the access code. Students will then type

in their names and answer the questions.
