Rolling Shutter

Material
Rolling Shutter and guide frame shall be made of Mild Steel Sheet in accordance with the provision
relevant IS or BS 5950 unless otherwise specified. The shutter shall be manufactured from approved
manufacturer and shop drawing shall be approved by engineer prior to processing of manufacturing.
Shutter shall be made of strips of Mild Steel Sheet with 1.25 mm thickness and 80mm width and required
length or as specified on the drawing. The strips shall be machine rolled and straightened with an effective
bridge depth of 16mm and shall be interlocked together throughout their entire length and joined at the
end with end locks. These interlocked strips shall be mounted on specially designed pipe shaft to roll the
strip on it. Each strip section shall be continuous and single piece throughout the span without any joint.
The springs to be used as power for rolling shutter shall be coiled type. The spring shall be manufactured
from high tensile spring steel wire or strip of adequate strength to balance the shutters in all positions.
The spring and pipe shaft shall be supported on strong mild steel brackets.
The guide channels shall be of mild steel deep channel section rolled and pressed or welded fabrication.
The minimum thickness of the sheet used shall not be 3.15 mm.
The minimum depths for guide channels shall be 60mm for the shutter with clear span up to 3.5 meter
and 75mm for span above 3.5 meters.
The gap between the two sides of the guide channel shall be sufficient to allow the free movement of the
curtain and at the same time, they shall be close enough to prevent the rattling of the curtain due to wind.
Each guide channel shall be provided with a minimum of three fixing dowels or hooks for embedding in
the wall or columns. The spacing of dowel or hook shall not exceed 0.75m. The cover of shaft and spring
shall be of the same material as that of strip.
Fixing
Brackets for shaft support shall be fixed on the lintel or as specified on the drawing and shall be firmly
screwed into the concrete. Then shaft along with the spring shall be fixed on the brackets.
The shutter strips shall be laid on ground and aligned with the side guide channels and fastened with rope
for lifting. The shutter shall then be placed in position, lifted along with guide channel for fitting in the
place. The shutters shall be fixed on the shaft by means of bolts and nuts and the side guide channels shall
then be welded on the dowels anchored in the walls. The dowels, bolts and nuts shall be concealed in
plaster as necessary to make their location invisible. Fixing shall be done accurately in a workman like
manner that the operation of the shutter is easy and smooth.
Measurement and payment
The measurement shall be done in height multiplied by width of the shutter, i.e. in Square meter. No extra
will be paid for like shutter cover box, edges, etc. The rate shall cover manufacturing, supply and
installation of the shutter including all fitting accessories.
