AGI SCHEMES FOR ESM

1 Maturity Benefit.

(a) AGIF maturity benefit is paid to all members proceeding on retirement /


discharge, which is accumulation of saving element of amount contributed by
member alongwith interest and bonus.

(b) Maturity is paid to the indl member on receipt of Appx G (old Appx L) at
the time of his retirement / discharge.

(c) The amount can only be paid on receipt of Appx G from indl’s unit, duly
vetted by the PCDA (O) and concerned PAO (OR), which authenticates the
contributions made by the indl towards AGIF.

(d) Maturity amount is also paid alongwith death benefits to the NOK, in
case of sad demise of any member.

(e) There is also a provision for the member to withdraw 50% from the
maturity benefit after 15 years of regular service in Army, for the purpose of
education / marriage of wards.

(f) In addition, member can withdraw upto 90% of the maturity amount for
repair / renovation of house or for the purpose of conveyance during last two
yr of service before superannuation.

2. Insurance. Insurance schemes are there to provide Insurance benefits


speedily to the families of those Army personnel who may die while in service. The
Insurance Cover is Rs 50 Lacs for Offrs and Rs 25 Lacs for JCOs/OR for a monthly
subscription of Rs 5000 and Rs 2500 respectively.

3. Disability Cover. Provision exists to provide disability cover to the entitled


serving Army personnel depending on percentage of disability, if his contractual
period of service is cut short and indl is invalided out of service prematurely due to
injury or disease. The Officers and JCOs/OR, eligible for disability benefit with 100%
disability, will get an amount of Rs 25 lacs and Rs 12.5 lacs respectively, which gets
proportionately reduced for lower element of disability upto 20 percent. Ex Gratia
disability allce is also granted by AGIF in case a member with 100% disability has
been recommended a constant attendant.

4. TA Insurance Cover. AGIF started an Insurance Scheme for Territorial Army


pers known as TAGIS with effect from 09 Oct 1984. Presently, the ins cover is Rs
30 lakhs for offrs and Rs 15 lakhs for JCOs/OR with an annual premium of Rs
30,000/- and Rs 15,000/- respectively.
5. TA Disability Cover. Disability benefits provided to TA personnel will be
50 percent of the insured amount for 100 percent disability, which gets
proportionately reduced for lower element of disability upto 20 percent.

6. Extended Insurance (EI) Scheme.

(a) Army Group Insurance Fund Extended Insurance (EI) Scheme is run
as a compulsory term insurance scheme, which was introduced in 1981. It is
an extension of the overall Group Insurance Scheme provided to members
while in service.

(b) The scheme provides the specified amount of cover to the NOK in case
of death of the member within the valid period of cover, as given in the
certificate issued to each member.

(c) The scheme has undergone periodic reviews and the current ongoing
schemes are as given below :-

8. Board of Governors of AGIF has approved the refund of one time subscription
of EI Scheme without interest to surviving members, who have joined the scheme on
31 Jul 2010 onwards, after the validity period ,ie, 26 years after retirement or 75
years of age, whichever is earlier, by increasing the contributed subscription by a
small amount. However, members who joined the Scheme prior to 31 Jul 2010 will
continue to be covered under the Scheme as mentioned in their Extended Insurance
Certificates.

AGI Medical Benefit Scheme

9. All Army personnel who retired before 01 April 2003, were covered by AGI
Medical Benefit Scheme (MBS) for which, one time premium was deducted from
their maturity amount at the time of their retirement. This Scheme was discontinued
wef 01 April 2003 on introduction of Ex Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme
(ECHS).

10. AGI is refunding the one time premium charged from members of MBS along
with 70% ex gratia. The procedure to claim the MBS premium by members is given
in subsequent Para.
11. How to Claim Refund. Members of MBS, who are yet to claim refund, are
to apply on a plain paper to AGIF for the refund along with under mentioned
documents :-

(a) Original MBS card issued by AGIF along with supplementary card if
issued.

(b) Details of Bank Account Number and address of Bank.

(c) Present address of member.

(d) Contact Number if available.

(e) Not applicable for personnel of Navy & Air Force.

(f) ECHS documents or Extended Insurance Certificate (issued by AGIF)


not required.

(g) Not applicable for personnel who retired after 01 April 2003.

AGIF Scholarship Scheme

12. In order to mitigate the financial burden on the Officers, JCOs/OR and ex-
servicemen towards higher technical education of their wards, AGIF Scholarship
Schemes for twelve AWES run professional institutions has been approved as a Pilot
Project by the AGIF Board of Governors.

13. Institutions Covered Under Scheme. The following twelve AWES institutes
are covered under the AGIF Scholarship Scheme :-
(a) Army College of Dental Science (ACDS), Secunderabad.

(b) Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali.

(c) Army College of Medical Science (ACMS), Delhi Cantt.

(d) Army Institute of Technology (AIT), Pune.

(e) Army College of Nursing (ACN), Jalandhar.

(f) Army Institute of Nursing (AIN), Guwahati.

(g) Army Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology


(AIHM&CT), Bangalore.

(h) Army Institute of Management Kolkata (AIMK).

(j) Army Institute of Management & Technology (AIMT), Greater Noida.


(k) Army Institute of Fashion Design (AIFD), Bangalore.

(l) Army Institute of Education (AIE), Delhi.

(m) Army Centre of Education (ACE), Panchmarhi.

14. The percentage of eligible students for award of AGIF Scholarships has been
fixed at 24 % of actual intake per stream per year, which works out to a total of 901
Scholarships per year. Distribution of 24% vacancies for the Scholarships are as
under :-

(a) Reserved for Officers Wards. 6%.


(b) Reserved for Wards of JCOs/OR. 10%.
(c) Reserved for Girls of JCOs/OR. 8%.
Total 24%

15. An amount of ` 40,000/- (Rupees forty thousand only) per eligible student per
annum will be paid through NEFT/ Cheques drawn on the name of parents.

16. Eligibility Conditions. The eligibility conditions are as under:-

(a) Only wards of serving/ ex-servicemen Officers and JCOs/OR, who are/
have been members of the AGIF will be covered under this Scheme.

(b) The Scholarship will be admissible from the first year of admission,
which will be based on the percentage of marks scored in the 10+2 level/
degree level examination. Subsequent year’s scholarships will be awarded
based on the performance of the students in the preceding year of the
technical/ professional course.

(c) The merit list will be prepared by the Head of the respective twelve
AWES institutes and forwarded to AGIF by 31 Dec every year through
respective Formation HQ.

17. Relevant details of the Scholarship Scheme have been disseminated to the
environment vide AGIF letter A/56271/R/AG/Ins (Coord) dt 06 Jun 2012, even No dt
18 Oct 2012 and even No dt 19 Jun 2013.
