Specification Notes

Excavation and Earthworks

Excavation
Existing level is the same as finished level

Topsoil is average 150mm thick and is to be preserved

Trenches are to be dug to a depth of 1.30m below existing level

The site investigation indicates no problems with ground water, obstructions in the
ground or buried utilities

Disposal
Topsoil is to be deposited in temporary spoil heaps on site. These are to be located
approximately 100m from the excavation

Surplus excavated material to be removed from site

Filling
Trenches and floors slabs: Imported hardcore filling, broken brick or stone, compacting in
225mm thick layers.

Surfaces of hardcore filling under damp proof membrane to be blinded with sand 50mm
thick

Concrete Work.

In situ concrete
10 N 20 Filling to cavity walls.

20 N 20 Ground Floor slab.

25 N 20 Strip Foundations.

Precast Concrete
Lintels: Spanlite or equal approved 100x65mm high to internal wall openings, allow
225mm building in at ends

Brickwork and Blockwork

Brickwork
Kingscourt red rustic facing bricks; 215x102.5x65mm; in gauged mortar (1:1:6), half lap
stretcher bond, fair finish one side pointed with a bucket handled joint finish.

Blockwork
Solid concrete blockwork to IS 20; 440x215x100mm in gauged mortar (1:1:6) in
stretcher bond to external cavity walls and internal walls

Forming cavities
100mm wide cavity; stainless steel wall ties at 450 mm vertical and 900mm horizontal
centres; insulated with 60mm Kingspan ‘Thermawall’ TW52 insulation.
Closing cavity at jambs ‘L’ shaped closer blocks
Closing cavity at heads with block on flat
Closing cavity at raking verges wit natural slate

Damp proof course

‘Hyload or equal approved damp proof course; allow 225mm laps
and external doors
