How is your Day Today?

The astrologers who prepare the deaily, weekly or mothly reports
for different Sun signs or Moon signs, essentially have to depend on
the transiting planets. These reports, even if they have some
technical basisl, are too generalized and draw ridicule from the
public at large. The reader as ewll as the writer, both know the
frivolity of this exercise. Yet they are popular just for the heack of it.
That is why almost all the newspapers and magazines have a column
devotd to How is your day today or the Week ahead, even if the
editor professes and wears his love for scientific acumen on his
sleeve. To lay people an unwarranted message goes that this is
astrology, and look, how ridiculous it is. So, these columns do a great
disservice to the cause of serious astrology.
Here we give a simple method to find out How is the day to day
based on the individual’s boroscope for which Sarvashataka figures
have been calculated. The method is simple enough and can also be
inbuilt in the astrologhy softwares.
How is your day today:
1. Place the transiting planets (except Rahu and Ketu) in the
respective signs in the sarvastaka chart of the native as per the
ephemeries of the prevailing time.
2. Add up the bindus from the houses being transited.
3. If the total is above 196 (28x7), the day is above average.
Higher the figure, better the day. Lower the figure, more
miserable the day*. (*The method can be applied to the Sun
 Sankrati ; time, the moment the Sun shifts to a new sign, to find
out how the mouth will be in general.)
One can stop at this if a rudimentarhy idea of the dahy or month
is rewquired. For a more sophisticated approach on eshould use
weighted planetary strength
Weighted Planetary Strength:
4. Multiply the savashtaka bindus in the houses being transited
by the weighted factor given in the table below. This wil give
the weighted planetary strength.
5. Add up the figures in the houses which are being transited by a
planet on that day.196 would be the avereage figure for an
average day. Though more eomplex, this model gives a more
refinded atrix for day to day strenght of the planets in this
native’s chart.

Let us take an example to understand the calculations. Let the day be today,
15th August,2010 and let kus apply it on India’s Chart.
The Sun is in Cancer which has 27 bindus. It should be multiplied by a factor
fo 1.2 since it si in a friend’s house. Mercury is in Leo, in a friend’s house.
Mercury is in Leo, in a friend’s house which has 27 bindus again. Mars is in
Virgo with 30 bindus. But it is in an unfriendly sign drawing a factor of o.5. I
like this we will go over all the 7 planets. The calculations are, being shown
below:
Sun in Cancer : 27x1.2 =32.4
Moon in Libra : 25x1.0 =25.0
Mars in Virgo : 30x1.0 =15.0
Mercury in Leo : 27x1.2 =32.4
Jupiter in Pisces : 35x1.4 =49.0
Venjus in Virgo : 35x1.4 =24.0
Saturn in Virgo : 30x1.2 =36.0

The total being marginally higher than 196, the day was marginally above
average. Despite terrorists threats nothing untoward happened in the country
and the Independence Day was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm.
Interested readers can make another index of this dind for their use taking
into account the binnashtaka figures with or without the weight factors. The
average in that case will be 28(4x7).
Transit chart without the natal chart
The above technique can also be tailor made for any lagna. Sun sign or Moon
sign. All that one has to do is drsq the transit chart of the day and choose a
particular sign as the first house. A total of 12 such charts will have to be
necessarilhy made, onefor each sign as the lagna. Calculate the
Sarvashtakavarga bindus and post them in the respective houses.
In this method one does not talk about the individual’s natal chart, onlhy the
transit chart. One may apply the wieighted factors also for higher
sophistication, but, essentially,k this method can only be general. The
strength of this chart lies in the fact that this is a purely digital work and each
each digit includes the contribution of all the seven planets plus the lagna.
If there are high bindus in the right places then the day will be good. The right
places means, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9yh, 10th and most implortantly the 11th house.l
The bindu pattern in various houses can give some hints to the astrologer to
what about each lagna.
If it is used for the Sun sing predictions, which are the most popular, it may
only be fair to use the topical zodiac (using zero ayanamsha).
Natal chart and transit with Kakashya consideration
One can assess How is the Day Today by considering which kakshyas the 7
planest are going through and whether the respective Kakshay lords have
given a bindu in the kakshay or not. To find this out the prastaravarga is used.
At any given time a planet would be trnsiting one o fthe eight kakshyas.For
the forst 30 0 45’ munutes in a sign Saturn is the lord of the kakshya. The
subsequent Kakshya lord are in the order of speed of the planets, i.e.,
Jupiter,Mars,Sun, Venus, Mercury,Moon and the lagna.
If the toltal no. of ayes are 3 or more , the day is good. Higher the figure, the
maximum being 7, the better gthe day. The theory part is that when a planet
moves in a kakshya whose lord has given a bindu in its own prastaravarga in
that sign, then the time is aupicious. If the kakshya lord has not given a bindu
then the time is inauspicious.,10 a.m. \
Let jus take th eexample of 15th August 2010
a. The Sun in Cancer at 28.21 was in the kaksha (8the) of the ascendant and
has a bindu contributed by the ascenddant in Cancer in the BAV of the Sun.
b. The Mpoon in Libra at 8.21 was in the kakshhya (3rd) of Mars and has a
bindu contributed by Mars in Libra in Mars’ BAV
c. Mars at 16.01 in Virgo was in the kakshya (5th) of Venus which has not
contributed a bindu
d. Mercury at 23.40 in Leo was in the kakshya (7th) of Moon which has
contrivuted a bindu
e. Jupiter at 8.33 in Pisced was in the kakshya (3 rd ) of Mars which has
contrivuted a bundu.
f. Venus at 14.07 jin Virgo was in the kakshya (4th) of the Sun which has not
given a vindu
g. Saturn at 8.15 in Virgo was again in the kakshya (3 rd) of Mars which has
not given a vindu

Thus we see that out of the 7 planets 4 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury and
Jupiter) have garnered support from their respective kakshya lords. Hence
the day is above average. Rahu and ketu stay out of the Ashtakavarga
considerations for most purposes.

Moon’s Nakashatra

Perhaps the best method for finding How I your Day Today’ is to note the
nakshatra in which the Moon is transiting today. The day will be according to
the Placement of the nakshatra lord (as per the Vimshottari system) and its
lordship in the natal chart. Several layers of sophistication can be added to
this basic principle to add more substance to the prediction.

1. Check the SAC and BAV bindus of the Moon in the sign it is traveling . If the
bindus are high the results would be asupicious. This is a general principle
and can be applied to all the planets at any time. In the above example of
15th August, 2010,the Moon was transitign in Libra with 1/5/25 bindus,
The kakshya and th BAV are indicating good rexsults but the SAV is
mediocre.
2. The Moon was I sSwati nakshatra whose lord Rahu is in the lagna of the
Indian nativity. Rahu I swith 44 SAV bindus (normally Rahu and Ketu’s
BAV’s are not included in the cdiscussion) which takes care of any
negativity that may be associated with the malefic Rahu. The country was
in a celebratory mood despite the terrorist threats;. The Moon in the 6 th
house was also indicative of perceived threat. Rahu is typically indicative
of terrorist activity. It being in the lagnanatally,India has continuallhy
faced terrorist activity. It being in the lagnanatally, India has continually

3. Rahu Is not supposed to own any house therefore, for the sake of
explanation, let us take a day earlier. A day earlier the nakshatra of the
transiting Moon was Chitra, and the lord was Mars. We would treat Mars
as the lord of the 7the and 12th houses posited in the 2nd house for this
nativithy. The day’s events would reflect the significations fo the houses
involved along with the natural significations of the planet. The bindus
wher Mars is posited are only 2/19, which are rather low and cannot be
considered to give auspicious results for the 2nd house at all. Jupiter’s
aspect on Mars can also be factored in. jThe houses owned by Mars have
3/30 in Aries and 2/23 in Scorpio. Therefore, this day would give almost
average results for the significatios of the 12the house (Aries) and below
average for the 7th house (Scorpio). It needs a lot of experties and
imagination to zero-in on the activitives of the day in advance. Analysis of
some past data about the native can give good clues. This method can also
be used for informal or impormpt muhurta for fixing important meetings.
4. The nakshatra lord of the transiting Moon can also be checked in the
transit as to which house it is traversing. For the example ablve, Mars was
 transiting Virgo in the 5the house with 5/30 bindus which I squite
auspicious.
5. If the nakshatra lord I sMerchry with the day lord, it is good. On 14 th
August,200 I twas Saturday. For Mars, Saturn is neutral and for saturn,
mars is enemy. The day would be ordinary.
6. The time o fthe day when the Moon changes its nakshatra indicates a
significant shift in the fortunes of the day. May be the coming nakshatra
lord is placed beter ! The activities of the day wher you have some degree
of freedom may be planned accordingly.
7. This method can give stunning pre warning when watched around the
times when other significant malefic conjunctions ar taking place, e.g.,
Saturn-Mercur,Saturn-Mars,Satrun-Rahu,Saturn-Ketu,Mars-Mercury,Mars-
Rahu or Mars-Katu etc
8. To have a better idea o fthe day, one must resort to all the five limbs of the
panchangsa, namelyu, Tithi, Vaar, Nakashatra, Yoga, and Karana, according
to the standard principles.
