points verified?
3.3 Is any change made to default characterization option?
3.4 What are the distillation boundaries (Initial point and final point in
percent distilled) defined?
4 THERMODYNAMIC METHOD SELECTION
4.1 What are the thermodynamic methods selected to define the system?
4.2 Is water to be decanted or modelled or both? Is thermodynamic
system accordingly modified?
4.3 Are all binary interaction parameters for all pairs available in the
default library?
If no, how are they obtained?
Are the BIPs available in databank valid for the given temperature
and pressure conditions of the flow sheet?
4.4 Which correlation's for calculations of transport properties have been
used?
4.5 Are refinery inspection properties of interest defined?
4.6 Are methods selected for enthalpy, entropy and density calculations
correct?
5 FLOWSHEET CONFIGURATION CHECKS
5.1 Is calculation sequence selected by simulator or defined by user?

6.1 Are all the feed streams correctly defined (pressure, temperature,

6.2 In case of assay streams, is correct cut point set used to obtain pseudo

6.3 In case of assay streams, is the stream blending option for multiple
cut point set data simulations defined correctly?
6.4 Are all equipments numbered as per PFD?
6.5 Are all streams labeled as per PFD?
6.6 Is the process simulation flow diagram, PFD, according to
system/utility flow diagram / P&ID

the oil outlet streams downstream the separators.

design data sheets/offshore experience data/dynamic simulations

6.11 Is relevant case simulated and are correct Design Basis/Production
Profile rates used in the simulation
Are all streams correct defined (pressure, temperature and etc.)
6.12 Are specifications for mixer and splitter verified?
6.13 Are thermodynamic methods selected for each individual unit
operation correct?
6.14 Is any two liquid phase operation involved? Is thermodynamic
method selected supports two liquid phase calculations?
6.15 For sizing/ rating of column internals, is basis for tray efficiency
validated and verified?
6.16 Have you generated a keyword input file for final simulation?
6.17 Are reasonably acceptable initial estimates provided for tear streams?
6.18 Are the conditions and state for all the battery limit streams correctly
defined?
6.19 In case of cross referencing of streams, is temperature, pressure and
flow rate correctly modified?

7 RESULTS
7.1 Have you verified overall flow sheet material balance? Is the total
feed mass flow equal with outlet mass flow?
7.2 Are overall material balance results validated with any existing data?
7.3 Does key component’s overall balance acceptable?
7.4 Are all operating conditions including feed stock variations,
throughput variations accessed?
7.5 Are all product stream yields as per the design basis? If No, What is
percentage deviation?
7.6 Are all product specifications are met and are in line with basis of
design?
7.7 Is overall heat balance verified and closed in simulation?
7.8 Have you verified that all warning and run time messages are
acceptable?
7.9 Is the calculated RVP/TVP according to design basis?
7.10 Are the calculated power requirements according to design basis?
7.11 Have you verified the overall impurity balance?
7.12 Are heating and cooling utility conditions specified correctly and
overall utility requirements are verified?
7.13 Are heating cooling curves generated covers the entire temperature
and pressure range for the given unit operation?
7.14 Are transport properties and liquid densities compared with any
existing data? Any abnormality observed for these values?
7.15 Are phase and flow rates verified for all the intermediate and product
streams?
7.16 Are there any errors in the simulation?
7.17 Is the final result representative for the system?
7.18 Is the simulation in accordance with overall design philosophy?
7.19 Are the summary sheets and PFD acceptable ?
7.20 Is material balance directly produced from the simulator? If yes, then
have you checked that all PFD streams are included in print file?
7.21 Have you specifically verified the tear streams results for
acceptability?
7.22 Are the bubble points/ dew points for mixtures validated with any
existing data?
