Abstract
I did not do any prep for the Practice Praxis Core Exam. I wanted to see where my
baseline knowledge was for the three subjects of reading, writing, and mathematics. Surprisingly,
I found the math to be way easier than I had anticipated. The reading portion was shorter than the
typical reading exams that I am used to The writing I found to be the hardest. Many of the
writing problems that focused on correcting errors were tedious and annoying. I struggled to find
the minute differences between the answer options, the missing commas, and lowercase letters
Passing the Praxis Core exams is required in order to be accepted at the UNLV, UNR,
and NSC college of education. The qualifying scores for the test in Nevada are as follows:
I decided not to study or prepare for the Praxis Tests. I wanted to take it using my base
knowledge of the three subjects and see where I stood without studying. I figured that if i did
well on the tests without studying, I wouldn't have to stress out about it the real tests. I did better
Most of the math seemed to be below basic algebra, the reading was very easy, and the
writing was simple. The math was the easiest. I remember doing the same level math in my
sophomore year of high school! In a lot of the problems you could have found the right answer
using simple logic along with some basic math operations. I got a 81% which means I am likely
to pass. In reality my true score I think would be around 90% as I took the test at 2am while I
was falling asleep, I rushed through the test and rarely stopped to recheck my answers. The
reading was extremely easy compared to the proficiency and end of course exams that I have
taken in the past. Exams in the past had me reading stories that were a couple pages in length.
Meanwhile, the Praxis had stories that were a max of two paragraphs. I thought it was ridiculous.
In the end I got a 70%, which is a borderline score but i know I will pass the real one cause I
skimmed all the stories on the practice. During the real exam, I will actually read the material.
The writing test was the most annoying for me. It was all extremely minute details that didn’t so
much require knowledge of writing but the patience to sit there and pick through the moved
commas and different cased letters. I got a 68% on the writing portion, which says I need

improvement. Considering that i didn’t write the 5000 word essay that they wanted me to, that’s
pretty good.
I will prepare for the real Praxis by using the library resources at CSN and maybe the
online study guides you can buy. I am not going to study because I am not confident in my
ability, just to make sure that I do not have to take the exams multiple times.
