INTRODUCTION
The disadvantages of social networking and social media will continue to be
studied for decades to come. In the meantime, we already know it is a significant
source of concern among privacy advocates as well as parents who worry about
their children’s safety. But clearly, the disadvantages of social networking go
much deeper than privacy and safety.
The biggest downfall of social media being incorporated into education is the
security and privacy issues that come along with it. Confidentiality and privacy are
very big issues within social media because of issues such as posting personal
information online. Teachers should take responsibility to educate their students
about the security and privacy issues of posting person information online.
Identities need to be protected, and if this is not followed, social media has the
potential to be a huge liability in learning, and risk being taken away from school
systems.
Personally, we do not believe there are many losers when it comes to social
media in education. The only perceived losers we would consider would be the
individuals that have their rights violated through the advancements in
technology. However, we also believe that individuals should be precautious of
this because social media and Web allows anybody to access the information
since it includes a variety of different categories including content sharing.
Individuals should be aware of the accessibility that everybody has and their
privacy settings before engaging in the social media.
