DATE OF DEFENSE:

Dengue has been a pressing issue in the Philippines, most especially due to urbanization and global

warming. Within the year 2017, the dengue cases recorded people experiencing symptoms such as

sudden fever and aching joints. With no direct cure discovered, having this kind of dangerous virus

can possibly lead to death, if not properly dealt with, making it a major health issue. In line with

this, the community had launched various means to prevent it, some of which include the creation

of Dengvaxia and the utilization of various larva trapping techniques.

This research is conducted to determine the most effective countermeasures the barangay has taken

to eradicate Dengue. Seeking to know the standing of the community, this research document
presents information on the perception of the members of Barangay Valenzuela on the methods in

question. This research study observes the relationship of the dengue cases recorded in the

barangay and the programs led by the barangay to the perceptions of the residents of Barangay

Valenzuela.

The research paradigm as illustrated that in Figure 1, the input such as the residents of the

barangay, the healthcare benefits from the barangay, and other programs of the barangay will affect

the effectiveness of the countermeasures performed by the community against Dengue.

Interviewing the residents is a way to gather and record the perception of the residents towards the

effectiveness of the dengue prevention programs of the barangay. The effectiveness and

recommendations of the residents would be the output from this research by observing the success

or failure of the Dengue cases.

The researchers attempted to answer the following questions: (1) What is the demographic profile

of the residents of Barangay Valenzuela, Makati City in terms of: (1.1) Job, (1.2) Sex, and (1.3)

Street where the respondents live? (2) What are the health benefits from the barangay? (3) What

are the other programs led and conducted by the community to eradicate Dengue (4) Is the

barangay able to eradicate and cope effectively to Dengue and lastly, (4) What are the residents'

recommendations for other communities to respond positively to Dengue. This study is solely

focused on the perceptions of the residents of Barangay Valenzuela, Makati City towards the

programs the community implemented to eradicate Dengue.

The study used a descriptive research, particularly the quota sampling method. Causal comparative

method is used to describe observations and explores causality to identify associations among

variables and to determine the relationship of Test Anxiety and Science Attitude towards Science

Achievement. The following instruments that were used were validated: (1) science attitude, (2)

science achievement, and (3) test anxiety scale.

The following findings emerged from the interview: (1) Out of forty-five (45) students; 4.4% or 2

students were categorized as highly anxious; 35 or 16 students were categorized as anxious; 55.5%

or 25 students were categorized as slightly anxious; and 4.4% or 2 students were categorized to be

not anxious. (2) The results indicate that majority of the residents are aware of the programs

implemented for elimination of Dengue. (3) The barangay offers more health benefits to its

residents, however, due to lack of cooperation and participation, some residents are unaware of

theses said programs. (4) The community has been able to cope with Dengue due to its minimum

records of Dengue cases. (5) The residents have recommended that in order to prevent Dengue,

the community must maintain its cleanliness and provide more ways to spread awareness.
Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were drawn: (1) maintain the

community's cleanliness to avoid Dengue cases. (2) Spread information about dengue prevention

programs to all residents in order to spread awareness. (3) The barangay must exert more effort to

maintain theses countermeasures at least every month.
