Abstract
Many of the techniques that are used to accommodate Special Ed and Limited English
Proficiency students are the same. Example of such include, visuals, large legible print, and
simplified vocabulary. The Gifted and Talented and LGBTQ populations needs are specialized
for those particular groups. Even though this paper is divided into special populations, it is
Special Ed Students
I will be sure to follow each student’s Individualized Education Plan or IEP, which will
dictate what modifications need to be implemented for that individual student. In addition to this
I will provide many visuals accompanied with the concepts that are covered in my class. Any
presentation will have simplified vocabulary coincided with large legible print. It is important to
learning for English Language Learners. Pairing LEP students with a more proficient English
speaker will ensure their understanding of concepts and vocabulary; and will help support the
creation of a safe environment. Also the use of extra time between response and question will
help the student feel more comfortable with joining open discussions.
I will provide Gifted and Talented students with meaningful and challenging activities to extend
on concepts. Also providing choices in which activities they would prefer that matches their
strengths. I encourage these students to utilize open discussion to maximize their higher order
thinking skills.
LGBTQ Students
I will encourage an open minded classroom towards individual uniqueness, this includes gender
identity and sexual orientation. I will not allow the use of any derogatory or homophobic terms

and will use such moments to educate on diversity. I will educate myself on how to teach my
students on this delicate subject and provide a safe and welcoming environment.
