LESSON PLAN (Resistor)

I. Objectives:
Know the basic function of resistor in the circuit.

II. Content:
Subject Matter: Basic Function of Resistor in the Circuit
Skills/Process: Discovering
Materials: LED, potentiometer, battery 9V, marker, visual aid, laptop or DLP.
Reference: K to 12 MODULE Consumer Electronics Servicing Module, Exploratory Course (page 24)
Values Focus: Safety awareness.

III. Procedure:
A. Pre-activity:
1. Introduction:
What comes in your mind when we say electronics? Commonly we think about
technology; cellphones, tablet, computers and so much more. Those are the product of
electronics. All electronics products has what we electronics components and one of
these components are the resistors.
2. Motivation:
 Make the student play the game “Dog and Cat”. Select/ask for two students to
volunteer to play as a Cat and a Dog. Let the rest play as the wall or a resistance.
 Discuss the rules of the game. Let the Dog try to catch Cat within 30 seconds.
 After the game, ask the students “What did you do why Dog can’t catch the Cat so
easily? You give resistance. Same in electronics we have what we call resistor to give
resistance.
3. Presentation:
Today, our topic is to find out the basic function of resistor in the circuit.
4. Setting of standards:
 The group will be divided into three groups.
 Each group must select their leader and reporter.
 Everyone must participate in the activity.
 Each group will finish the given activity within 2 minutes.

B. Activity Proper:
1. Activity
 Ask the students to go to their group.
 Give each group the ready-made simple circuit with battery, potentiometer and Light
Emitting Diode and the writing materials.
 You only need tap the terminal of the light which doesn’t have wire on the terminal of
the battery
 Try to turn the knob of the resistor left and right. For the group one! Observe the light
as you turn left and write your observation in the writing materials provided. Same
with group 2 but the difference is as you turn right.
 For the group 3, you only need to place the terminal of the LED on the battery longer
and observe the light. Refer to the direction given.
 Tell them to right their observation in the writing materials provided.

2. Analysis:
 For group 1, what had you observed as you turn the knob to the left?
 Fro group 2, what had you observed as the knob turns to the right?
 For group 3, what happens when you place the LED terminal longer into the battery
without resistor?
C. Post – activity
1. Abstraction:
What do you think the function of the resistor in the circuit? The resistor gives resistance
that can oppose/resist to the flow of electricity. Therefore, the lower the resistance, the
higher the flow of electricity and the higher the resistance, the lower the flow of electricity.
2. Application:
What we will use when we need to apply resistance in the circuit? “Resistor”
3. Values Integration:
How important to have resistor in the circuit?
To give the exact amount of electricity needed in the circuit and to avoid damages as what
the group 3 realized

IV. Evaluation:
Direction: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if not.
1. Resistor gives ___________ in the circuit.
a. Capacitance b. Resistance c. Inductance
2. The higher the resistance, the __________the electricity that passes.
a. Higher b. lesser c. always the same
3. The lower the resistance, the ______the electricity that passes.
a. Higher b. lower c. no effect
4. The light goes dim when the resistance is?
a. Low b. high c. no resistance
5. The light goes brighter when the resistance is?
a. Low b. high c. both A and B

V. Assignment:
Direction: Write in the ¼ sheet of paper.
Give the types and other form of resistor.
