Notice of Student Performing Within The At Risk of Retention Criteria

This letter is to inform you that your child falls within a specific set of criteria which
identifies him/her as being at-risk of retention in the 20___-20___ school year. The specific
criteria is based on testing information (CA Standards Tests and other multiple measures)
current classroom assessments and daily performance in the area of reading and math.

State legislation requires school districts to define the level of academic competency
necessary to promote a child to the next grade level. Based on current Board Policy and
your child’s academic progress, we are mandated to identify as early as possible students
who are at risk of not meeting the District’s criteria for promotion to the next grade level in
reading and/or math.

The goal of student identification is to provide support and interventions in the area of
reading and/or mathematics to meet a child’s academic needs. These interventions occur
during the school day and/ or before/ after school. If your child’s academic work in reading
and/or math does not show improvement in the remaining part of the school year, retention
could be recommended by a team of teachers and administrators at the school.

We want to bring this matter to your attention so that you can work together with school
personnel to support your child in his/her reading and/or math progress for the remainder
of the school year. It is important that school and home work closely together to support
your child’s best interests.
