 The first example is bet, the first
sound from the word bet is /b/, the
second sound is /e/, and the last  /b/ /e/ /t/
sound is /t/.
 /b/ /e/ /t/ = bet  /b/ /e/ /t/ = bet
 So the vowel that is being used is e
and the short vowel sound is /e/.
 The word is bet.
 Again, what word?  Bet
 Let’s try another example.
 The word “pet”, the first sound in the  /p/ /e/ /t/
word pet is /p/ followed by /e/, and
last is /t/.
 /p/ /e/ /t/ = pet
 So the short vowel sound is /e/ and
the word is Pet.
 Again, how do you pronounce the  /p/ /e/ /t/ = pet
word?
 What word?  Pet
 Okay let’s read the following /e/
short vowel sounds with proper
pronunciation.

- Peg - Peg
- Beg - Beg
- Pet - Pet
 So, who among you here can
construct a sentence having a /e/
short vowel sound word?
 Yes Kathy!  My pet is a dog.
