Grade 7 Module: Interior and Exterior Angle of Polygons

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson you should be able to:
1. identify the parts of a regular polygon: interior, exterior and the points on the polygon
itself
2. determine the sum of the measures of the interior angles of a polygon.
3. determine the sum of all measures of the exterior angles of a polygon

Think of this:
What things or objects do you see around you?
What are their shapes?
Why do we need to know the geometric shapes?
Engage 1
Use a protractor to measure each angle of the figures. Write the sum of the measures of the angles of each
geometric figure below?

Polygons are closed
figures made up of three

A diagonal of a polygon
is a segment joining two
non-consecutive vertices
of the polygon
Central Angle– is an angle formed by the segments joining consecutive vertices.
External Angle – is an angle formed by a side and an extension of an adjacent side of the regular n- gon.

Explore : The Exterior Angle of A Polygon

Instruction Measure all the Exterior Angles of each polygon

Make a formula about the Exterior Angle of a polygon. What is the connection of the central angle of a
polygon that is 360°.

A. Answer the following problems.
1. A equilateral triangle ad a regular hexagon have the same perimeter length. If the length of a side of the
hexagon is 14cm. How long is the side of the triangle?

2. The length of the side of an equilateral triangle is the same as the perimeter of a regular octagon. If the
length of a side of the octagon is 5cm, what is the perimeter of the triangle?

B. Find the value of x.
