APPARATUS REQUIRED:
FORMULA USED:
Vph,rms = (√2/3)*Vs=0.4714Vs
Vline,rms = (√(2/3))*Vs=0.8165Vs
Vph,rms = Vs/√6=0.4082Vs
Vline,rms = Vs/√2=0.7071Vs
THEORY:
Three phase bridge inverter requires 6 IGBTs. The operation of three phase bridge
inverter may be either 180º mode or 120º mode based on the conduction of each device.

In this mode each device conducts for 120º of a cycle. 120º mode gives reliable
commutation. At any instant only two IGBT remains ON, one from the upper group and one
from the lower group.
At ωt = 0-60º IGBT 6 and 1 are conducting. Load terminal a is connected to positive
bus of dc source whereas terminal b is connected to negative bus of dc source. Phase
voltages Van = Vs/2 , Vbn = -Vs/2, Vcn = 0 and line voltage Vab = Vs
PROCEDURE:
1. Model for three phase inverter is made as per the circuit diagram.
2. Select the 180º mode of conduction and note down the output voltage.
3. Select the 120º mode of conduction and note down the output voltage.
4. Line and phase voltages are measured for two modes.
RESULT:
Thus the three phase inverter was simulated by using PSIM model in 180º and 120º
and sine pwm modes of operation with star connected resistive load.
