eekdayc
First Reading: Galatians 3:7-14
Psalm: Psalm 111:1-6
Gospel:cLuke 11:15-26c

Love cannot triumph unless it becomes the one passion of our life.
Until we have a passionate love for Our Lord in the Most Blessed
Sacrament, we shall accomplish nothing. Certainly, Our Lord loves
us passionately in the Eucharist ; He loves us blindly without a

eekdayc
First Reading: Galatians 4:22-24, 26-27, 31 -- 5:1
Psalm: Psalm 113:1-7
Gospel:cLuke 11:29-32c

Before Communion you hear about Jesus Christ and you know
Him; you are told of His Cross, of His suffering; doubtless you are
affected, are even touched with compassion. But let these same
truths be presented to you after Communion. Oh, how much more
deeply your soul is moved! It cannot hear enough; it understands
much more perfectly. Before Communion, you contemplate Jesus
outside you; now you contemplate Him within you, with His own
eyes! It is the mystery of Emmaus re-enacted. When Jesus taught
the two disciples along the way, explaining the Scriptures to them,
their faith still wavered, though they felt inwardly some mysterious
emotion. But participating in the Fraction of the bread, immediately
their eyes were opened, and their hearts were like to burst with joy.
The voice of Jesus had not sufficed to reveal His presence to
them; they had to feel His Heart, had to be fed with the Bread of
understanding!"c

I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through
the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of
cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not
be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner
for his sake; but Ô

Companions (Memorial)c
First Reading: Ephesians 2:12-22
Psalm: Psalm 85:9-14
Gospel:cLuke 12:35-38c

The good Shepherd lays down his life, says the Lord, that is, his
physical life, for His sheep; this he does because of his authority
and love. Both in fact, are required: that they should be ruled by
him, and that he should love them. The first without the second is
not enough. Christ stands out for us as the example of this
teaching: if Christ laid down his life for us, so we also ought to lay
down our lives for our brothers.c

c
-- St. John Baptist de la Sallec

Thursday, October 21, 2010

eekdayc
First Reading: Ephesians 3:14-21
Psalm: Psalm 33:1-2, 4-5, 11-12, 18-19
Gospel:cLuke 12:49-53c

How many sins have entered into the soul through the eye as Holy
Scripture indicates? [1 Jn. 2:16]. That is why they must fast by
keeping them lowered and not permitting them to look upon
frivolous and unlawful objects; the ears, by depriving them of
listening to vain talk which serves only to fill the mind with worldly
images; the tongue, in not speaking idle words and those which
savor of the world or the things of the world. We ought also to cut
off useless thoughts, as well as vain memories and superfluous
appetites and desires of our will. In short, we ought to hold in
check all those things which keep us from loving or tending to the
Sovereign Good.c

c

St. John of Capistrano, OM, Priest (Memorial)c
First Reading: Ephesians 4:7-16
Psalm: Psalm 122:1-5
Gospel:cLuke 13:1-9c

We believe in the love of God for us. To believe in love is

everything. It is not enough to believe in the Truth. We must
believe in Love and Love is our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
That is the faith that makes our Lord loved. Ask for this pure and
simple faith in the Eucharist. Men will teach you; but only Jesus will
give you the grace to believe in Him. You have the Eucharist. What
more do you want?c

c

generous. `ot even night should interrupt you in your duty of
mercy. Do not say "Come back and I will give you something
tomorrow." There should be no delay between your intention and
your good deed. Generosity is the one thing that cannot admit of
delay.c

Gospel:cLuke 6:12-16c

In the spiritual life he who does not advance goes backward. It

happens as with a boat which always must go ahead. If it stands
still the wind blows it back. Fix the time, the length of your
meditation, and do not rise from your place until you have finished
even at the cost of being crucified.c

give you this advice: When you see your parents, who miss
religious services, who work on Sunday, who eat meat on
forbidden days, who do not go to the Sacraments anymore, who
do not improve their minds on religious matters--do the very
opposite before them, so that your good example may save them,
and if you are wise and good enough to do this, you will have
gained everything. That is what I most desire for you.c
