a. DESIGN BRIEF
Science museums, as a trusted part of the informal education system, are able to
address the economic, cultural, and social dimensions of sustainability. They achieve this
by engaging the public with interactive exhibits and by publicizing their own green
efforts. The goal, stated or unstated, is to educate patrons about the effect they have on
their environment, the ecological, economic, and cultural risks taken when they ignore
their impact on the world, and introduce ways that they can reduce their carbon footprint.
Thus, museums achieve civic engagement and social responsibility through teaching.
stagnation. The Philippines could be considered as one of the world leaders in renewable
energy because of its abundant renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass,
education system should at least fulfill the environmental and technological learning
needs of the students. Philippines, as one of the countries in the world with abundant
renewable energies, needs an enlightenment for the people especially the young minds to
develop more innovations with the use of natural energies of the country.

c. DESIGN OBJECTIVES
d. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Zoning
Zoning plays a vital role in the planning of the development, through a careful
analysis of each space, determining whether it belongs to the private group, semipublic/
private or public.

The parking spaces and souvenir shops are considered as public. The frontage will
be located beside the entrance gate, upon the dropoff point while entering cars will have
to drive through to the designated parking spaces which will be far enough for the
sounds and pollution that the cars emit will not reach the private and spaces of
the development.
Accessibility
The development being accessible to the public means it is open to all kinds of
people, whether abled or not. Accessibility as consideration to the disabled persons shall
be prioritized, careful analysis and planning of the road networks, from the entrance
going to the spaces, assuring a better access of the development. Proper and
ample space for wheelchair turn abouts will be implemented, as well as proper and
careful analysis of material thresholds. Necessary and carefully designed ramps will be
Orientation
A pleasing surroundings and a hint of what nature is, with proper natural lighting
from the sun and proper ventilation from a good planning in accordance with the wind
Sustainability
Green building refers to both a structure and the using of processes that are environmentally
Lighting
Lighting is the one of the top most consideration particularly in a museum. Tungsten halogen
lighting will be used for the museum gallery, unlike direct sunlight and usage of CFL lighting, it
emits lesser ultraviolet light. Light Emitting Diode or LED lights can now be used to light up
Aesthetics
Architectural design values play an important role as it reflects the image of the structure.
Aesthetics will be considered based on the type, use and purpose of the structure.
Ergonomics
Proper furniture layouts and sizes shall be one of the top most considerations in the
museum.
Though considered as a place open to the public, the site will be bounded by a
perimeter wall. CCTV cameras will be placed in strategic location to ensure the security of the
place.
e. DESIGN CRITERIA
f. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
“Architecture should not just serve its structural purpose but should also benefit the
g. DESIGN CONCEPT
Earth, also called the world, is the only astronomical object known to
accommodate life. Earth remains the only known planet to host life, due to a unique
combination of factors. Earth’s elements are the ingredients that are able to support life.
Due to the modernization of our technology, Earth’s elements are able to utilize
A green roof or living roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered
with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. This roof
recreational opportunities, and in large scale it may even have ecological benefits.
A cistern is a waterproof receptacle for holding liquids, usually water. This will be
installed on the underground part of the museum. A system of gutters and downspouts directs the
rainwater collected by the roof to the storage cistern for water filtration and distribution systems.

lightweight rigid structure constructed from interlocking struts in a geometric pattern. Space
frames can be used to span large areas with few interior supports. Like the truss, a space frame is
strong because of the inherent rigidity of the triangle; flexing loads (bending moments) are
transmitted as tension and compression loads along the length of each strut.
Light tubes capture sunlight using a rooftop dome, then transfer it indoors through a
reflective tube that runs from the roof to the ceiling. From there, the light is evenly dispersed into
