Machu Picchu is as it is known today to this citadel of the Inca Empire whose
ruins date back to 1300 AD. However, "Old Mountain", as its translation indicates,
comes from the native language Quechua, native language still with much
presence in some communities of the south of the country, where this city is
known like Machu Picchu. This citadel still contains the remains of the old
settlement formed by this part of the Inca civilization, located to the east of the
depression formed by the mountainous systems Machu Picchu and Huayna
Picchu with the Central Andes to the south of the country. This geographical
location on the eastern slope of the Vilcanota mountain range, only 80 kilometers
from the city of Cuzco, still has many of the remains and stone ruins built by all
the slopes of these mountain systems, presenting the different historical periods
of the Inca civilization that left their traces and history in the citadel of Machu
Picchu.

The area built in Machu Picchu is 530 meters long by 200 meters wide and
includes at least 172 enclosures. The complex is clearly divided into two large
areas: the agricultural area, consisting of sets of terraces for farming, which lies
to the south; And the urban area, which is, of course, the one where the
occupants lived and where the main civil and religious activities took place. Both
areas are separated by a wall, a moat and a stairway, elements that run parallel
along the eastern slope of the mountain.64 An appreciable part of the ruins that
can be seen today are actually recent reconstructions, as can be seen in
