In 2016, I tried out for a soccer team called the Ceres Earthquakes. This team was starting to
rebuild their team. Half of their team were new players, which included me and some of my old
teammates from Merced United. Since half of the team were from Merced United,the coaches
decided to change our team name. Therefore instead of Ceres Earthquakes, it is Ceres
Earthquakes FC United. At first, we all weren’t use to playing together because it was the first
time playing together with different players. However, as more games and practices came, we
all start to get use together and start to play a beautiful soccer game together and winning
games together. Towards the end of the summer, our coach had entered us into a big
tournament. He had entered us into the Placer United Tournament. We had faced a lot of teams
that were difficult and some easy ones. Throughout the tournament we had beat them all and
made it to the finals. From this tournament, I specifically remember the semi-final and
championship games only because both of the teams were the toughest to beat in the
tournament. Not only that but also because the semi-final games was early in the morning,
where it was super cold, foggy, and the grass was wet and slippery. Moreover, later towards the
game the sun decided to come out and shine brightly in my eyes and that made it really difficult
for me to see the game. Good thing that it came out before the first half was coming to an end.
Which my team had taken advantage of and took a lot of shots from the outside box. From there
on we moved on to the finals and had a tough time scoring as well as they did too. It was a
really close game. We were able to score one goal against them during first half of the game.
There was a good and bad to it. It was good because we had a higher chance of winning the
game as well has being ahead of them. The bad is that the losing team, will be more motivated
to try to score against us. Not only that but they have a lot of time to try to tied the game up.
However, we played our hardest to prevent that to happen and tried to waste a lot of time so
they have a less chance of scoring. On the last minute they had a free kick near the 18 box
knowing very well that they will most likely try to shoot from there. And I knew that I need to
block this goal, it was nerve wracking because when the player kicked the ball it was high and I
had to jump to block it. I wasn’t able to catch it but I blocked it with the help of the goal post to
prevent the ball to go inside. Instead of it going inside, the ball bounced over the goal, and all I
knew was when I get the ball, I will waste time and take home the championship. In the end we
won 1-0, it was a fun and tough game. Which makes it very satisfying that we had won the
championship. I will never forget the feeling of winning a championship especially this
championship.
