textbooksare heavily utilized, first: developing their own classroom materials is an

extremely difficult, second: teachers have limited time in which to develop new

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background

Books are needed as the main source beside the teacher. Books contain

information that can be used to find out what happened in the past, present, and

possible future so that it broadens the horizons of its readers and becomes a source

of inspiration. In teaching and learning interactions not only needed a teacher and

students, but also needed a learning tool. One of them is a textbook.

Textbooks play an important role in teaching which can facilitate student

activities in learning, both in the classroom and outside the classroom. Because of

the increasing tendency to obtain information through electronic media in all

fields, besides the form of writing, books have also been displayed electronically

(electronic book). Therefore, since 2008 in Indonesia textbooks have been

displayed in printed books and Electronic School Books (BSE).

Textbooks have an important role for teachers and students as well as

learning reference materials and as a means to help students learn, also textbooks

help students to understand the material they will learn by reading and

understanding it. A good textbook must have the feasibility to be a source of

learning, which is interesting and able to stimulate students' interest in learning it.

In order for this expectation to become a reality, books must be interesting,

especially in terms of language and contents and have an impact on the ability to

think, act and behave.

2
In July 2013 the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture has

implemented a new curriculum on education in Indonesia called the 2013

Curriculum. The theme of the 2013 Curriculum development is to produce

productive, creative, innovative, and affective Indonesian people through

strengthening attitudes (know why), skills (know how), and knowledge (know

what) is integrated.

B. Purpose

Research will work well if it has good plans and goals. Similarly, every

scientific work has a purpose and purpose, both practically and theoretically. The

purpose of this study is that the author wants to examine the contents of the

journal Character Education Analysis of English Textbook "When English Ringsa

Bell" for the Seventh Grade of Junior High School.

C. Advantage

This research is expected to provide benefits, both theoretically and

practically. Theoretically, the results of this study are expected to improve science

in the field of education and linguistics, especially the study of book analysis, that

linguistic aspects can be a reference in writing English textbooks. In addition,

practically this research can be used as: (i) guidelines for writers to make quality

English textbooks, and (ii) input for editors, educators, and parents regarding the

seventh grade English textbooks.

CHAPTER II

IDEA

A. Up-to-date Information

The information up-to-date taken from reading sources. "Textbooks are

textbooks in certain fields of study which are standard books, compiled by experts

in the field for instructional purposes and objectives, which are equipped with

matching teaching facilities and are easily understood by the users in schools and

universities so that they can support a teaching program."

The position of textbooks is very important, good for students and

teachers. Because of this level of importance, lesson text books must be worthy of

being a place to gain experience. Because it has been prepared in terms of

completeness and presentation, the lesson text book provides facilities for

independent learning activities, both about the substance and about how. Thus, the

use of textbooks by students is part of the book culture, which is one of the signs

of a developed society.

B. Implemented solution

We can conclude, the procedure below is a practical and simple step that

can be used as a reference for teaching practitioners in determining the use of

good and quality textbooks:

1. Analysis of student learning needs,

2. Determine specific goals,

4
3. Implement evaluation criteria,

4. Determine the raw score, average, and profile picture,

5. Describe and compare with ideal profiles,

6. Determine the decision: use or not, and

7. Step on the next attitude, namely: change, add, adapt, or replace.

C. Condition

1. Reflects the use of textbook (present or future) that will be made by

students.

2. Help equip students to use language effectively for their own purposes.

3. Facilitate the learning process of students, without imposing dogmatic

arigid methods.

4. Have a clear role as a support for learning, teachers, they mediate between

target languages and students.

D. Institute that implement ideas

In my opinion Textbooks are textbooks intended for students at certain

levels of education (elementary school, junior high school, senior high

school/vocational, etc). Textbooks are always related to certain fields of study

(Indonesian, Mathematics, Physics, History, etc). Textbooks are always standard

books. The standard definition here is that there is usually a sign of authorization

from the authority under the National Education Service. Textbooks are written by

experts in their respective fields. In this journal has explain the author conduct

5
research for the seventh grade junior high school, but I think the levels of

education can help to implement the textbooks.

E. The steps strategic

Here are three steps to use:

1. Population and Samples,

2. Data Collection Techniques, and

3. Data Analysis Techniques.

6
CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

A. Proposed Ideas

The use and application of good and quality textbooks in all circles of

students to analyze character education values.

B. Implemented techniques

1. Population and Sample

The population used by the author in this study is analysis of english

textbooks.

2. Data Collection Techniques

To obtain information needed in this study, the author uses descriptive

methods. According to Winarno Surachmad (1975: 131): "Descriptive methods

are focused on the problems that exist in the present." The author argues that the

descriptive method is suitable for use in this study, because this research starts

from the things that exist in the present, and narrating and interpreting existing

data.

3. Data Analysis Techniques

The author analyzes the data in terms of: approaches, teaching materials,

methods, objectives, and communicativeness.

7
C. Advantage

The advantage for me is being able to find out and examine the thesis,

add insight by reading various sources of journals and articles related to

textbooks.

D. Impacts of Ideas

The practice of active students when viewed from the positive side can

make students think more creative and innovative. In this 2013 curriculum

students are invited to socialize with their friends through group assignments.

When compared with the active teacher learning method, that is, teachers who

play more roles in the learning process, this method of active students is more

beneficial for students in the future especially in this modern era. So that students

no longer depend on textbooks because subject matter can be obtained from

various sources, not just student handbooks. The practice of the 2013 curriculum

is expected to create active individuals and be able to think creatively and

innovatively when plunging into the community.

But, not all students are able to take part in the implementation of this

new curriculum. Not all students are able to adapt to this active student method.

There are some of them who want to be like before, which is given material and

explained beforehand by the teacher then given training as a measure of the extent

of our understanding of the material.
