Jesus said: “I give you a new
commandment: love one
another.” He said this after
Judas had already left to betray
him, indicating that loving is
also forgiving.
Countless marriages have been
graced by St. Paul’s words:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud. It does not
dishonor others …” (NIV). Paul
famously concludes: “So faith, hope, love remain ... but
the greatest of these is love.”
Love is the central theme of our Christian faith.
Without love none of it works. We are challenged this
and every day to love one another. When that love
happens, Peter Scholtes’s 1960s anthem comes true:
“They’ll know we are Christians by our love.”

PLEDGE CARDS
A reminder to prayerfully consider completing or
renewing your pledge and returning the card to the
office. A note of thanks to those who have returned
their pledge cards - this will be helpful in planning and
managing our finances. Pledge cards are also in pews.
ANNOUNCING SUMMER WEEKENDS MASS
SCHEDULE TIME CHANGE
During the summer months, with people on vacations
and many off to cottages, all 3 weekend Masses are not
as well attended as they usually are, even with visitors
attending. For JULY AND AUGUST ONLY
(including Aug 31/Sept 1 weekend), we will have the
usual Saturday evening Mass however only ONE
Sunday morning Mass at 10:00 a.m. Mass intentions
that have already been booked on those weekends
will be revised.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Congratulations to the grade 2
students from St. Mark School who
will receive Jesus in the Holy
Eucharist for the first time this
weekend. Thank you to all who
assisted with the preparation of the
children for their first Holy Communion. Please keep

WOMEN’S DAY OF REFLECTION
The Diocese of St. Catharines is offering a Day of
Reflection for Women on the Gift of Hope with Dr.
Josephine Lombardi on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at
Gethsemane Ministries Centre, 84008 Wellandport
Road, Wellandport, from 9:45am – 3:00pm. To

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT
1. When coming to Mass, show respect. Dress
appropriately and be respectful to others.
2. Approach the Altar with Prayer – act prayerfully.
You are asked to make a sign of reverence with a slight
bow of the head prior to receiving Holy Communion.
3. Take Communion correctly. Taking Communion
by hand or mouth are both correct. If you take
Communion by your mouth, open wide and slightly
stick out your tongue. If you take Communion by hand
– form a throne by letting your dominant hand cradle
your other hand.
4. Don’t walk off with the Host. Immediately
consume the ENTIRE Host before leaving the altar.
5. Respect the Host. It is Real Presence of Jesus
Christ.
6. Use clear body language. Be clear how you plan to
take the Eucharist. If you are approaching the altar to
receive a Blessing – make sure that your hands are
crossed over the chest – right hand to left shoulder, left
hand to right shoulder.
7. State of Grace. We must be in a state of grace
before taking the Eucharist. We must not have any
mortal sin. If you think you committed a mortal sin,
please go to confession before taking the Eucharist.
8. In order to receive the Eucharist at a Roman
Catholic Church, you need to be a practicing
Catholic. Anyone who isn’t a Catholic is welcome to
receive a blessing.
SVDP NORTH OF 60 PROJECT
All SVDP councils and schools in Niagara have been
asked once again to help the parishioners of Fr. Dan at
Our Lady of Snows Church in Naujaat, Nunavut. There
are 80 Inuit families in need this year. Each particular
council has been asked to donate various items in a
rather large quantity in order to fill 2 20-foot sea
containers to be sent out in early June. Why not use
our wealth to help those that really need it? God will
often provide for people through us. Providing for
those in need is part of serving one another and as we
serve others we are serving Christ. St. Vincent de
Paul - St. Helen is responsible for Applesauce in the
6 packs with an expiry date of 2020. If you are able
