Configuring the Linksys WRT610N as an access point

IMPORTANT: The following procedure disables the router capability of your device. It is strongly
recommended to follow the cascading of routers procedure if you want to connect two (2) routers in

To configure the Linksys WRT610N Wireless-N Router as an access point, follow the instructions
below:

NOTE: By configuring a wireless router to serve an access point, the Internet port on the router should
no longer be used. All Ethernet cables being used need to be plugged in to ports 1-4.

Connecting the computer to the router

To configure a Linksys router, you need to physically connect the computer to the router in order to
access its web-based setup page. Connect the computer to any of the numbered ports on the router.

Configuring the wireless settings

Before configuring your router as an access point, you need to configure the wireless settings of the

Configuring the wireless router as an access point

Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page. For instructions, click
here(https://kb.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=135561).

NOTE: If you are using Mac® to access the router’s web-based setup page, click
here(https://kb.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=143269).

Step 2:
On the web-based setup page, click Administration.

Step 3:
Select Disabled under Upnp.

Step 4:
Click .

Step 5:
Click the Setup tab.

Step 6:
On Internet Connection Type, select Automatic Configuration – DHCP from the drop-down
menu.

Step 7:
Set up a unique IP Address that is not in use for IP Address under Router Address.

QUICK TIP: Use an IP Address that is not currently being used by any network components like
another computer or network storage unit.

Step 8:
Select Disabled for DHCP Server.

Step 9:
Click .

Your wireless router is now configured as an access point.
