Imagine, there is sophisticated industrial plant with pipe lines network of about 100000

kilometers carrying a fluid and performing very useful functions. It works day and night without
any stoppage. To maintain this much huge and complicated system we need enormous
resources including massive manpower with expertise right? But there is one place where
only one human being is doing this job. What is that and where it is.

Respected President ,Fellow Toast masters and distinguished guests. Very warm and good
evening!

So any guesses about that one, yes, it is human body itself. Besides to all other amazing
systems inside the human body, there is one of the critical systems it is is blood circulatory
system. It comprises Heart, its work as pump and all blood vessels carrying the blood working
as pipe line. As I told you it is about 100000 Km in length. Just to realize length, imagine if
you join end to end this blood vessels then you can make 2 and half round around the earth
circumference. Now about diameter of this blood vessels, thickest one is 25 mm and thinnest
one is 8 micron. What is the thickness of our hair can anybody tell. Yes it is around 50 micron.
So you can realize the size of 8 micron, even we cannot see that much small by bare eyes.
And it carries the blood through. Daily our body is circulating blood of 37 barrels, it is around
7500 liters. This is all happens in human body day and night continuously. But which function
is getting performed with this system, it is very important to understand here. Our each and
every organ of the body like eyes, lungs, lever, kidney etc are made up of tissues. These
tissue needs continuously nutrients, water, oxygen and not only that whatever waste is getting
generated has to be removed from it like carbondioxide, uria etc. If this function work properly
your all organ will work perfectly. Else, what will happen if this blood flow interrupted or not
enriched with oxygen and nutrients, your organ will started starving and ultimately getting
sick. Either they will do malfunction or stopped working. Here we are come across different
diseases.

This is one delicate system, like this there are many amazing systems working in our body.
Does they need any help to run it efficiently, yes it is required.

Imagine some simple activities that ensure all your these systems work efficiently, with more
reliability, durability not only that it increases your flexibility, strengthens your muscles,
centers your thoughts, relax you and many many more other benefits.

Yes, here the concept of Yoga is coming.

Yoga, almost everyone is familiar with this word and some idea about it, right? Let us have
some refresh about this great concept.

"Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It originated in India more than 5,000
years ago. The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit language, which means to join, or unite.
But what to unit or join. It unites mind and body; thought and action; harmony between man
and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being creating higher consciousness.
How we can perform this, it is very simple.

In yoga there are many streams but here we will see two branches related to our health. One
is Yogasans and other one is Pranayam.

In Yogasan, there are thousands of body poses or postures focused on specific body part.
For example if you take this pose and it is called Tadasan.

This asana brings stability in the body, helps to clear up congestion of the spinal nerves,
corrects faulty posture. Helps to increase height up to a certain age.
Loke these other yogasans focusing different part of the body, example, Padmasan,
Pachimotasan, Sarvangasan, Chakrasan, Shirsasan, Halasan many more.

Yagasans are a continuous sequence of contraction and expansion of muscles, blood vessels
that lead to keep it clear, flexible with elasticity, stronger and the resultant better functioning.

Here we saw how to keep this sophisticated long pipe line healthy with different type of
yogasans. But now we have to ensure blood supply with high oxygen and nutrients to this
vital tissues. Here it is coming second part of Yoga and it’s called Pranayama. It teaches you
the art of extending your breath in many different ways, how to inhaled and exhaled skillfully
with different patterns and rate.

The various Pranayama exercises induce the lungs to open as far as possible. Due to this
expansion the lungs have an increased surface area to absorb oxygen and to relieve
themselves of toxic gases. This ensures that you are free of all the breathing diseases such
as asthama. There are different type of Pranayam like

Bhastrika, AlomVilom, Kapalbhati, Bhramari etc.

For example Kapalbhati, Take deep breath slowly and exhale it with help of stomach force. In
Alomm Vilom inhaled and exhaled breath with alternate nostrils.

You breathe in life energy. That’s the reason why your breath is so important. Pranayama as
a practice in hatha yoga teaches you how to control your breathing. Through the control of
your breathe you start controlling your self. This is the first step towards the attainment of
higher consciousness.

People who practice Pranayama stay active through out the day and do not feel sluggish or fatigued.

Imagine the harm you are causing your body organs and glands as well as your brain by practicing
irregular breathing. Without your knowledge you are sabotaging the life force within you and this is the
reason why most people in today’s generation are afflicted with diseases such as hypertension, diabetes,
asthma and heart problems. There is so much stress prevalent that is almost palpable. The reason for all
these disorders is the imbalance that has crept into our breathing.

Benefits of Pranayama as Discipline of Yoga

The practice of Pranayama in itself can cure a person of all ills. When this practice is perfected you can be
assured of a healthy body and a mind which is free of negativity. Pranayama exercises involve various
types of breath control practices. The second part of this article discusses all the various breathing
exercises in Pranayama which you can peruse for better understanding. The purpose of this discussion is
to enlist the benefits you reap once you have perfected the exercises.

1. Pranayama Helps in the Improved functioning of your kidney

and bowels: Yoga advocates that function of excretion as vital to the functioning of a healthy body. Breathing
induces a massaging action on your internal organs including the kidney, bowel and diaphragm. The alternate inhale and
exhale which is performed while breathing induces a contraction and expansion of these organs.

Pranayama practice ensures that the inhaling and exhaling is rhythmic. Moreover the exercises which entail holding your
breath and exhaling slowly apply a definite pressure over these organs inducing a stimulating massage. The result would be
stronger and more elastic muscles controlling the kidney and your bowel leading to better functioning of these organs.

2. Pranayama Helps in the Improved function of your liver: People who

face digestive problems on a frequent basis tend to have a weak liver. The functioning of their pancreas and stomach would
also be suboptimal. The various Pranayama exercises induce a massaging action upon all these organs relieving them of all
the congestion improving the blood flow. There is an immediate improvement in the process of digestion once the liver is free
of congestion. The stimulation of the pancreas also ensures that the digestive system functions optimally.

3. Pranayama Helps the Lungs Perform Better: The various Pranayama exercises
induce the lungs to open as far as possible. Due to this expansion the lungs have an increased surface area to absorb oxygen
and to relieve themselves of toxic gases. This ensures that you are free of all the breathing diseases such as asthama

4. Improves the circulation of blood: Proper circulation of blood is vital to the proper
function of a human body. Diseases such a thyroid problems, heart problems and prostate problems are usually due to
improper circulation of blood to the endocrine glands. Pranayama exercises induce a rapid circulation of blood. Moreover the
blood is rich in oxygen and reaches the nerve endings faster. The action of rhythmic breathing stimulates the nerves around
the spinal column and the synaptic nerves inducing a rich blood flow to the brain inducing clearer thought.

5. Pranayama Aids the Endrocine Functioning: The endocrine glands work in

cohesion with the nervous system to ensure that nerve impulse are transmitted quickly. In people who feel sluggish through
out the day and have the tendency to sleep longer, there could well be a problem with their endocrine functioning.
Pranayama stimulates the endocrine glands to ensure proper transmission of nerve impulses. People who practice Pranayama
stay active through out the day and do not feel sluggish or fatigued.
