Prerequisites

• Experience: Understanding data models

• Hardware: A PC having at least 2GHz and 2GB

• Operating system: Windows, Linux or Mac OS

• Web browser: Firefox 4+, Chrome 10+ or Explorer 8+

• Training archive: “ebx-training-environment-<version>.zip” file

• Network connection: Internet connection to watch the training videos

• What are Master Data ?


They are business data shared across several users and/or systems

• What is Master Data Management (MDM) ?


It is a set of processes and tools to consistently manage Master Data

The EBX product is a set of customizable MDM web applications

Some of the main benefits of EBX are:


• Consistency: User interfaces & web services are generated from models
• Customizability: User interfaces & web services can be customized
• Genericity: Any business domain can be considered
• Controllability: Data & workflows are controlled through models
• Collaboration: Actors can work simultaneously on the same data
• Traceability: Versions of data can be stored and retrieved
• Accessibility: Actors have access to data according to their rights
• Integrability: The EBX web applications are integrated using web services
• Deployability: The EBX web applications are deployed to a web server

User categories

• Data Owner:
Supervises data sets, data models and workflow models

• Data Analyst:
Models data and workflows, reports to the Data Owner

• Data Steward:
Updates data sets, uses workflows, reports to the Data Owner

• Administrator:
Ensures the maintenance and the support of the application

Overview:
Training archive download

• Get the address of the training archive from your training coordinator:
The name of the archive is “ebx-training-environment-<version>.zip”

• Download the training archive into any local directory:


The archive should be downloaded beforehand, since it is a large file

Training archive installation

• Decompress the training archive into any local directory:


The resulting directory is named “ebx-training-environment-<version>”

Note: If the archive utility indicates that some paths are too long,
then use another one or decompress into a directory having a short path

Product execution

• Start the EBX server, by executing this file in a console:


ebx-training-environment-... / StartEBXServer-<version>.bat

• Open this “Readme” file, using a supported web browser:


ebx-training-environment-... / Readme.html

• Log in the EBX server, by selecting any hyperlink in the “Readme” file:
As Administrator, Data Analyst, Data Owner or Data Steward

Note: If the “Address already in use” error is displayed in the console,


then ensure that there is not any other application using the 8080 port

Note: If the web browser does not display the EBX pages properly,
then try the browser in “ebx-training-environment-... / Tools / Firefox”

Note: It is recommended to keep a shortcut to the “Readme” file,


since it will be often required to log in within the training

• ebx-training-environment-... / Documentation / EBX Foundations / Slides

Note: It is recommended to print the diagrams beforehand,


since they will often be useful within the training
