DOWNLOAD AMMUNITION FROM THE READY AMMUNITION

COMPARTMENT (NO POWER)


Open Door
A. Set circuit breaker CB12 in turret networks box to OFF.

B. Remove commander's curtain assembly.

1. Loosen belts.

2. Release D-rings from hooks.

3. Push in plunger and move to left.

4. Pull off curtain assembly.

C. Swing knee switch up to stowed position. (See Figure XXX)

D. Turn bypass valve on turret shelf counterclockwise to relieve hydraulic


pressure to ready ammunition door closing actuator.

NOTE
Release pin may be very hard to remove.

E. Push in and hold button on release pin and remove release pin from actuator
shaft.

F. Remove pry bar from stowed position.


• Lift latch and rotate to the left and down until detents are aligned

G. Install pry bar on pin and pivot down until wedge is in groove of ready
ammunition door. Pull out handle to full extension.

NOTE
It may be necessary to pry ready ammunition door toward open and closed
positions to lessen hydraulic pressure on ready ammunition door closing
actuator.
H. Pull down on latch while holding ready ammunition door fully closed with pry
bar. (Best to use a jimmy bar, but can be done by hand.)

I. Push Jimmy Bar in on back end of ready ammunition door closing actuator to
clear latch on ready ammunition door

J. Pry ready ammunition door left to open. Pull on bar to the right.

K. Install pry bar to stowed position.

L. Line up ready ammunition door hole in ready ammunition door with lock shaft.
M. Pull and turn lock shaft 1/4-turn counterclockwise to release lock shaft into
ready ammunition door hole.

WARNING
Explosive ammunition or containers with explosives must be handled with
great care at all times to prevent personal injury. Explosive elements in
primers and fuzes are very sensitive to shock and high temperature.
Ammunition and containers should not be dropped, thrown, or dragged. Do
not take ammunition apart.

WARNING
Releasing spring clip may allow round to drop out of tubes, (3), (4), (5), and
(6) and cause injury to personnel.
N. Push spring clip away from round.

CAUTION
Avoid contact of fluids with the combustible cartridge case.

NOTE
+ Releasing spring clip will push round out of tube several inches to allow
removal.
+ Remove rounds from stationary tubes in ammunition compartment before
removing rounds from side swing tubes (3), (4), (5) or vertical swing tubes
(6).

O. One at a time, grasp nine rounds and pull out of tubes.

WARNING
When pulling levers (8, 9, and 10) swing tubes (3, 4, 5, and 6) move rapidly
and fingers could be crushed or severed.

NOTE
Grasp round before pushing spring clip away from round to prevent
dropping round.
P. To remove round from side swing tubes (3), (4), (5), do the following:
1. Pull lever out.

2. Let tube swing to unload position.

3. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each round
by pulling it out of the tube.
4. Pull lever and move swing tube back until it locks.

NOTE
Grasp round before pushing spring clip away from round to prevent
dropping round.

Q. To remove round from vertical swing tube, do the following:


1. Place palm of right hand firmly under edge of vertical swing tube.
2. While pressing up on vertical swing tube with right hand, pull lever with
left hand to release latch.

3. Lower vertical swing tube slowly to avoid damage to tube and round
from sudden drop.

4. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each round
by pulling it out of the tube.
5. Repeat for two more tubes.
6. Return tubes to stowed position.
R. Close stowage ammunition door.
S. Install drive pin punch into actuator shaft and pull actuator shaft out 6 inches
(15.2 cm) to 10 inches (25.4 cm) past center post. Remove drive pin punch.

T. Pull and turn lock shaft 1/4-turn clockwise until lock shaft is straight up to
release ready ammunition door.

U. Position ready ammunition door to align holes in housing shaft and actuator
shaft (1) and put release pin in actuator shaft

V. Slide ready ammunition door to right as far as it will go.


W. Remove pry bar from stowed position.
X. With pry bar on pin, pivot pry bar down until wedge is in groove of ready
ammunition door.
Y. Move pry bar to left until latch hooks over latch plate.
Z. Install pry bar in stowed position.
AA. Turn bypass valve on turret shelf clockwise to return hydraulic pressure to
ready ammunition door closing actuator.

DOWNLOAD AMMUNITION FROM THE AMMUNITION STOWAGE


COMPARTMENT
A. Pivot pry bar down until wedge is in groove of stowage door. Pull handle out to
full extension.
B. Pry stowage door closed with pry bar to relieve pressure from stowage door
latch handle.
C. Turn stowage door latch handle clockwise, pull out, then turn
counterclockwise to locked open position.

D. Use pry bar to pull stowage door open.


E. Hold stowage door open with stowage door hold open lever.

WARNING
Releasing spring clip (1) may allow round (2) to drop out of tubes (3), (4),
(5), and (6) and cause injury to personnel.

G. Push spring clip away from round.

NOTE
• Releasing spring clip will push round out of tube several
inches to allow removal.
• Remove rounds from stationary tubes (7) in ammunition
compartment before removing rounds from side swing tubes
(3), (4), (5) or vertical swing tubes (6).

H. One at a time, grasp nine rounds and pull out of tubes.

I. To remove round from side swing tubes (3), (4), (5), do the following:
1. Pull lever out.
2. Let tube swing to unload position.
3. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each round
by pulling it out of the tube.
4. Pull lever and move swing tube back until it locks.
5. Pull levers one at a time, out to first detent.
6. Let two tubes swing to unload position.
7. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each round
by pulling it out of the tube.
8. Pull levers one at a time, out to second detent.
9. Let two tubes swing to unload position.
10. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each
round by pulling it out of the tube.
11. One at a time pull levers and move empty tubes into position.
J. To remove round from vertical swing tube, do the following:
1. Place palm of right hand firmly under edge of vertical swing tube.
2. While pressing up on vertical swing tube with right hand, pull lever with
left hand to release latch.
3. Lower vertical swing tube slowly to avoid damage to tube and round
from sudden drop.
4. Push spring clip away from round and one at a time remove each round
by pulling it out of the tube.
5. Repeat for two more tubes.
6. Return tubes to stowed position.
K. Release stowage door hold open lever and slide stowage door closed as far
as it will go.
L. Pivot pry bar down until wedge is in groove of stowage door. Pull handle out to
full extension.
M. Use pry bar to hold stowage door closed.
N. Turn stowage door latch handle clockwise, push in, then turn
counterclockwise to lock position.

O. Install commander's curtain assembly.


1. Place curtain assembly on stowage door.
2. Push in plunger and move to right.

3. Attach D-rings to hooks.

4. Tighten belts.
DOWNLOAD AMMUNITION FROM THE HULL AMMUNITION STOWAGE
COMPARTMENTS

A. Traverse turret as needed to gain access to hull ammunition doors.


B. Lock turret lock.

NOTE
Right hull ammunition door is shown for removing latch clamp assembly.
Do same steps for left hull
ammunition door.

C. Press and hold button on quick-release pins.

D. Pull out quick-release pins from vertical latch clamps.


E. Pull out handles to release tension on latch clamps.

F. Unhook latch clamp hooks from latch inserts. Turn latch clamp hooks away
from right hull ammunition door.
G. After latch clamp hooks are removed, push handles back into position.
H. Slide top end of clamp bar up through opening until bottom end of clamp bar
clears bracket. Remove clamp bar by lowering it out of opening.

NOTE
Only one hull ammunition door can be opened at a time.
I. To open right hull ammunition door, insert hook at end of clamp bar into latch
insert in right hull ammunition door, and push in and slide right hull ammunition
door to left as far as possible. Remove hook from latch insert and place clamp
bar against door edge. Push right hull ammunition door to the left until fully
opened.

J. To open left hull ammunition door, insert hook at end of clamp bar into latch
insert in left hull ammunition door, and push in and slide left hull ammunition door
to right as far as possible. Remove hook from latch insert and place clamp bar
against door edge. Push left hull ammunition door to the right until fully opened.

K. Open hull ammunition door.

NOTE
Steps A. thru D. are for one side of ammunition compartment. Repeat
procedure as needed, after traversing turret, if both sides are to be
unloaded.

WARNING
Releasing spring clip may allow round to drop out of tubes and cause
injury to personnel.

L. Push spring clip away from round.

M. One at a time, grasp three rounds and pull out of tubes.

NOTE
Right hull ammunition door is shown for closing hull ammunition doors. Do
same steps for left hull ammunition door.

N. Reach in and grasp slot in rear of right hull ammunition door. Slide right hull
ammunition door to right far enough to put hook in latch insert of right hull
ammunition door.
O. Pull right hull ammunition door all the way to the right until right hull
ammunition door seats against door opening.
P. Slide top end of clamp bar up through opening until bottom end of clamp bar
clears bracket. Place the clamp bar by lowering the bottom end into bracket.
Q. Pull out handles.
R. Hook latch clamp hooks on latch inserts.
S. Try to push handles all the way down one at a time, to latch right hull
ammunition door.
T. Check to see that right hull ammunition door is tightly sealed against opening
with both handles pushed down.
U. Put quick-release pins in vertical latch clamps.
