God has put a lot on my heart to write today, so I will be
brief. (A preacher’s definition of brief may not be the
same as yours.)
1. We can either resign, whine or shine when facing
troubles. That is what David Giles told me years ago. The
temptation to give up or only complain is strong. Life is
not fair, nor painless. But those who choose to shine by
trusting God discover a calming sustaining power. When
Naomi Judd learned she had an illness that would end her
road tours and start retirement, she said, “This is not my
tombstone; it’s a stepping stone.” We can resign, whine
or shine. Let’s be stars.
2. “The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules
the world.” (William Ross Wallace, 1865) I know of no
more powerful influence on a child’s life than that of
mothers. I hope you will honor your mother this Mother’s
Day. If she is no longer living, pause to thank God for her
life and influence. A parent’s love can’t be paid back, but
it can be passed on. And to young mothers I say, “Keep up
the great work”. Helen Young wrote:
“There will be a time when there will be no slamming of
doors, no toys on the stairs, no childhood quarrels, no
fingerprints on the wallpaper… then may I look back with
joy and not regret.”
3. We are not on pause, we are on mission. Soon East-
mont will have an interim pastor to provide leadership.
During this season, churches often go into maintenance
mode and forget about their mission. I don’t believe that
will happen at Eastmont. Pray with me that more than
ever we are united and focused on reaching the lost and
making disciples. This has been my hope from the first
day with you.
4. What you feed grows, what you starve dies. I am so
proud of our 2019 graduates. You have grown up in a
world that is spiritually starving. The Ten Commandments
may not be allowed on public property, but they must
never be removed from your heart. While you live in this
world, you do not have to become like this world. Resist
spiritual erosion by remaining close to Christ and always
involved in His church.
5. Finally, I believe one micro-mission trip does more
than 50 sermons. Visit, witness, give or minister to some-
one this week.

Interim Search Committee
Announcement
On Sunday, 4/28, Bro. Mike announced his retirement
date as Sunday, June 16th, about six weeks from now.
While the Pastor Search Committee has been working
diligently since December, their deliberate process does
not have them within six weeks of calling a pastor.
The Administrative Deacons, recognizing a need for
continuity between the time Bro. Mike retires and the
new Pastor begins his ministry, met Monday night,
4/29, and formed a committee to search for an interim
pastor.
These men volunteered to act quickly to secure an
interim pastor for Eastmont to begin as soon as possible
after Bro. Mike's last Sunday as pastor.
Please pray daily for Jim Hyland, Dallas Vick, and Travis
Norwood as they conduct this search.
Also, please continue to pray for the Pastor Search
Committee as they review resumes and conduct
interviews.

Bible Drillers Party - May 19, Rock - N - Jump at 6:30-
7:30pm jump time, 7:30-8:15 pizza party. Kids wear your
Bible Drill Shirts!
5th & 6th Grade Mission Journey
May 30th - June 2nd. Going to Shocco Springs, Huntsville,
and Mentone, AL to grow as a team with fun, tour minis-
try centers and help in commissioning summer missionar-
ies @ the Nehemiah Training Center. Cost is $50.

1J2 takes place June 3-7. We will serve the Hyde Park
community. Additionally we have also been invited to
serve with Pastor Dwayne Rembert and Flatline Church
at Chisolm. Details are in the works
HELPING HANDS
As a fundraiser for the St. Louis Mission trip, church
members may call the office and speak to Karen to
submit a project for students to complete.
SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 23-29, 2019, the student ministry will be in St. Louis,
Missouri. Remaining balances are due June 2.

It’s always a great time to join the choir and lead East-
mont in Worship!
STUDENT CHOIR
Student Choir rehearses each Sunday at 4:00 pm in the
Choir Suite.
Student Choir Tour is June 16-20! We will be engaging in
worship and missions with the Baldwin Baptist Associa-
tion in Gulf Shores, Alabama. There is still time to sign
up!
Last Student Jam for this year is May 19! Student Jam is
a time that we encourage and develop gifts for the Lord.
Make plans to join us right after the 10:30 service in the
Choir Suite.

FOREVER YOUNG CHOIR
