Problem Solving Essay

For my problem solving essay, i decided to look back towards my 9th and 11th grade
IDP. The progress towards these assignment were completed during our advisory in our own
time yet of course with a deadline in mind for it.. We were also assigned for our 9th grade IDP
we had to conduct research on Marijuana Abuse and create a Powerpoint explaining the topic
assigned to later on present towards a panel.

To start off, for my 11th grade IDP, we had to research over the lead contamination in
our soil and experiment with two plants from our water. The 11th grade IDP assignment was to
study the effects of a certain type of plant with different soils. One natural soil and soil from
neighborhoods, and with tap water and with Arrowhead water. We also had to study the effects
of a plant to see which one would grow faster, depending on which we were assigned. I was
assigned tap water contamination. Our way of presentation was through creating a powerpoint
and including our finding in the conducted experiment. Our choice of creating a call to action
was presenting through a class group of sophomores in our school, of course from permission
by their teacher. After the presentation, we later on passed around a small reflection and asked
for their opinion and if they had any extra opinion and thoughts on the pollution in soil and water.

The next presentation was my 9th grade IDP which was to conduct a research about
Marijuana Abuse, which would also be turned into a PowerPoint presentation and present our
research in front of medical professionals along with some staff members and teachers. During
the process of the project, we were assigned to collect data towards the amount of marijuana
being sold and used in the city of Huntington Park and including the found information and
statistics to our powerpoint. I used the following SLO’s For both my 9th Grade & 11th Grade, the
first would be a Critical thinker. In 9th grade i showed to be a critical thinker for the way how my
partners didn’t completely have the answers in mind during the official presentation. During
then, i was able to provide the answers without much hesitation and quick thinking.
In 11th grade, it was a similar situation. Such as, one of my group members not provide an
answer clearly towards one of the judges questions. Yet with an addition of a group member
arriving extremely late since we were already starting the presentation. I had to improvise quite
greatly since i didn’t know my missing group members part that well. Finally another SLO i
presented for my 11th Grade presentation was an effective Communicator. In 11th grade, i
showed to be an effective communicator by getting my group members organized with their
slides and checking in with them as much as i could and properly creating a letter to appeal to
the teacher for permission to present during their class time, two days prior the actual
presentation date.
