be a participant of the said study by reading and

understanding the letter of request approved by the

School’s Dean, Research Instructors and the Research and

Development Center. The population from each School during

the second semester S.Y. 2017-2018, and the actual sample

Data Gathering Tool

The researchers utilized test questionnaire as a

primary tool to gather necessary data. To assess the level

Design and Methodology 25

of knowledge, a true or false test question were formulated

wherein the indicators were gathered from different

literatures on Sexually Transmitted Diseases. In each

category, there are corresponding questions. Under the

types of STDs, there are 4 questions in it. Mode of

transmission has 5 questions, Risk factors has 3 questions,

Signs and symptoms has 6 questions, Prevention has 6

questions as well, Testing has only one question, Treatment

has 3 questions an Complications of STDs has 3 questions as

well. Another part of the questionnaire was utilized to

determine the level of compliance and preventive practices

of the respondents towards STD. Under this category, there

are only 7 questions.

Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of consent was given to the participants

containing the research purpose, procedure and the

participant’s right. Permission to conduct the study and

permission to float the questionnaires was secured from the

school’s dean and the participants’ respective instructors

before the data gathering. In case the participants are not

willing to participate in the said study, he/she was not

coerced. The participants were only identified through

their identification number, with a processed letter from

the OSA and registrar’s office. The data was tabulated and

computed accordingly. The results of the said study was

informed to the participants after the entire research

process by giving each school a copy of the research and a

poster regarding the study. The anonymity of the

participants in the data gathered was kept confidential.

Treatment of the Data

Frequency and percentages was computed to determine

the level of knowledge and level of preventive practices

(compliance) among UB students on Sexually Transmitted

Diseases. The values were interpreted and presented on

table 2:

and preventive practices among UB students on STD according

to school.

Ethical Considerations

The respondents who were willing to participate was

asked to sign the consent form after making them understand

the terms and conditions that were written in the letter

processed and approved by the Research and Development

Center.

A letter of consent was given to the participants

containing the research purpose, procedure and the

participant’s right. Permission to conduct the study will

be requested to the dean of School of Nursing as well as

the Research and Development Center. Permission to float

the questionnaires was given to the participants’

respective instructors and deans after requesting for the

students’ schedule for the data gathering. The participants

who were not willing to participate in the said study was

not coerced. Participants were voluntarily and randomly

selected and was informed beforehand that they can withdraw

or refrain from answering the questionnaires anytime. The

setting of the study will be inside the University.

The results of the said study will be forwarded to the

participants after the entire research process. The

identity of the participants in the data gathered was kept

confidential. The participants was identified through their

identification number, with a processed letter from the OSA

and registrar’s office.
