1. Introduction
1.1 Scope and Purpose
The purpose of this statement is to define and detail the process of Fire Hose Cabinet
installation and various related activities as outlined in the drawings, specifications
and other related documents.

To ensure effective implementation of this Method Statement and the relevant

Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) by all concerned parties, the procedures are being
discussed during production meeting. This method statement should be read in
conjunction with other relevant drawings, material submittals, technical
specifications, and methodologies.

Description of QSE Classification:

Subcontractor who does not have a documented management system and/or is not capable to prepare
Class method statements or carry out QSE risk assessments, not capable to implement relevant parts of L3PT
3 management system independently. Normally, Subcontractors who only supply labor belong to this
classification.

3. Classification for the Materials

4. Method / Construction / Installation Sequence

4.1 General

 The Fire Protection System including materials, components, and accessories

shall comply with the issued technical specifications, for construction drawings,
and relevant codes and standards.

 Ensure that related materials received for this activity are inspected and found
acceptable per approved submittals. These materials should be available before
carrying out any works.

 Prior to commencement of work, inspect areas and access to confirm that the site
is ready to commence work.

 All relevant documentation and drawings shall be checked by Site Engineer prior
to commencement of work to ensure that it’s updated and approved.

 Fire Hose Cabinet is an essential part of the building’s fire fighting system. It is
equipped with a high-pressure hose that carries water and other fire retardant
(such as fire extinguisher) material to extinguish fire. It is usually classified
based on their mounting installation which are either surfaced or recessed (see
photos below).

4.2 Sequence of Works

a. Installation of Surface Mounted FHC

 Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the wall has been painted &
released to proceed with the installation.

 The location of the fire hose cabinet shall be marked as per the approved shop
drawings.

 The height of installation of the cabinets shall be in line with the issued IFC or
approved shop drawings.

 The Fire hose cabinets shall be installed in place using four 10mm approved
anchors & bolts, ensuring the door will open 180 degree without blocking any
valves.

b. Installation of Recess FHC

 Prior to start of installation it shall be ensured that the wall around the fire
cabinet has been painted & released to proceed with the installation.

 Ensure that the block work opening for the fire hose cabinet is as per the
approved shop drawings prior to start of installation.

 The height & location of installation of the cabinets shall be in line with the
issued IFC or approved shop drawings.

 The fire cabinet shall be then placed in the opening with the outer flange flush
with the wall and shall be fitted to the block wall using 10mm approved
fasteners (8-10nos as per the size of the cabinet). The door of the cabinet shall
open 180 degrees.

c. Inspection and Testing

 All inspection and testing shall be carried out in accordance with the
Owner’s or General Contractor’s specific instructions and specifications.

 Inspection and testing of materials and/or installation shall be described in

detail in the Inspection, Test and Approval Plan (ITAP). The acceptance
criteria shall be clearly defined in the ITAP form.

 Copies of manufacturers, suppliers or third party test certificates and other

guarantees shall be maintained as a record of conformance with
specification and shall be maintained in the project records.

 For all testing carried out in the works, the QA/QC engineer shall ensure
that a copy of the test result is obtained and filed for record purposes.

d. Painting, Labeling, and Identification

 Fire Hose Cabinet shall be pre-painted/coated at fabrication yard before

being delivered to site.
 All installed FHC shall be adequately marked/identified as per NFPA and
Architect’s standard requirements.

5. Repair / Remedial Methods

The following are possible non-conformities and how to address them:

 Unaligned FHC/Incorrect elevation – Check the perpendicularity in reference to

the floor/ceiling using level bar and properly fix the FHC.
 Insufficient support – Refer to the IFC Drawing’s Miscellaneous Details and to
the supplier’s installation manual.

6. Control / Storage / Protection of Specific Materials

a. The Fire Hose Cabinets, Hose Racks, Reels & Extinguishers shall be carefully
off-loaded by deploying necessary / adequate manpower in such a way that no
damage is caused.
b. All materials shall be stored in a place free of water, dust & adequately covered
to avoid any kind of damages.
c. The Materials shall be transported to work place using adequate manpower.
d. While unloading, shifting and storage, it shall be ensured that there are no transit
damages.
e. Any discrepancies, damage etc., found will be notified and reported to QA/QC
engineer & Engineer in charge – for further action.
f. Materials found not suitable for site use will be removed from site immediately
& replaced by appropriate material.

7. Plants & Equipment

Following tools shall be required for the installation of hose reel cabinets/racks and
extinguishers:

 Portable Hand Tools

 Portable Drill Machines
 Portable Grinding Machines
 Pipe Threading Machine

8. Specific Safety Requirements & Precaution Measures

 Secure work request form.

 Inspect the work area prior to any activity.
 Brief workers rules and responsibilities before start of work.

 Provide barricade/warning signs on the work area.

 Ensure that all workers involved are wearing appropriate PPE.
 Follow safe work practice.
 Prevent development of safety hazards.
 Comply with power and hand tools procedure.
 Housekeeping should be observed after this activity.
 If an accident occurs, it will be immediately reported to the relevant authority,
and if required, emergency services will be called for medical treatment.

9. Proposed Environmental Protection Measures

 Good housekeeping shall be performed prior to leaving the work area.

 Store tools, equipments, and non-used materials properly at the end of workday.
