1. How many seeds were in your initial pepper? This represents the first generation.

There were 71 seeds in my initial pepper.

2. How many plants were alive in your pepper population after only 5 generations?

After 5 generations, there were 1,804,229,351 plants alive.

3. Describe your graph in detail. Be sure to include whether it represents logistic or exponential growth and
describe what happens in each generation.

My graph shows the growth of the population of pepper plants over a 5 year timeframe. Each generation the
population is squared and year 5, the population starts to grow exponentially.

4. Describe four or five environmental factors that might limit natural or wild populations (not necessarily pepper
plant populations).

1. Predators
2. Competition
3. Habitat Fragmentation
4. Food
5. Disease

5. If a population were subjected to some of these environmental factors for a considerable length of time, would
you expect to see any changes in the population? Explain the changes or lack of change in at least three full
sentences.

If a population were subjected to some of these environmental factors for a considerable length of time, there would
definitely be a change in the population. Predators would kill off a portion of the population. But, each year the
amount of the population that is not surviving due to predators can also be due to the weather that there is that year
and how that affects the habitat. Competition over time will drastically alter population. Once you hit a certain
number in the population, there will be limited resources that will drop the numbers . Habitat fragmentation affects
population because it will determine how species are able to move to find resources, and to mate to continue on the
species. Food is a huge factor that will affect the number of species. No species can continue without food sources.
When food is low in numbers, we see a drop in the numbers of the species as well. Disease affects population
because it will kill off numbers of species, and can spread rapidly through multiple populations.
