ABSTRACT

Magbanua, Maria Fe Grace T. “Employee Turnover of Healthcare Frontline Staff at

Adventist Hospital Palawan” Masters of Arts in Management, Palawan State University, March
2019.

Adviser: Dr. Judy Ann V. Sarail

Employee turnover is costly in service-intensive organizations where employee – customer

interactions directly affect the organization’s success. The healthcare frontline staffs or workers

are the backbone of effective health systems. They are those who have a direct patient contact,

and provides different health services. They are composed of Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical

Technologist, Physical Therapist, Radiologic Technologists, and Clinical Dietitians. The

purpose of this study was to address the healthcare frontline staff’s turnover.

It was evidence from the information collected from year 2015 to 2018 that there is a high

healthcare frontline staff’s turnover at Adventist Hospital Palawan, specifically Nurses. Base on

the result of the survey and on the case incidence of this study the following are the causes of the

employee turnover: employment opportunity outside the country, inadequate compensation,

inadequate welfare, inconsistency of training and development program and lastly, unclear career

advancement.Reducing turnover among the healthcare frontline staffs most especially the

Nurses, can positively affect the quality of care provided to patients and improve the health

services provided by the hospital.

To deal with the challenge of healthcare frontline staffs turnover the following alternative

courses of action is highly recommended: ACA B.1: Design Internal Career Opportunities for

Healthcare Frontline Staff and ACA C.1: Formulation Mediation Committee.
