INTRODUCTION

In summer season, we require cold water and cooled air.

modern appliances fulfilling these requirements need high power and are costly.

So, we propose modified simple air cooler.

 which is portable and low maintenance machine.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
In big cities, the problem is associated with the space and high installation cost
of cooling appliances. therefore this appliances becomes unaffordable for middle
class. Also, maintenance cost of this appliances are quite high which makes them
unsuitable most of the times.
SOLUTION
All above stated problems can be overcome by making some simple
modification in conventional air cooler which can be available at low cost and
also does not consume more power than conventional appliances.

Due its low maintenance cost it can be affordable to common people.

Gives better results than conventional cooling devices.

Dual purpose can be served by using AIR COOLER CUM WATER COOLER.
CONTRUCTION
AIR COOLER-
1.COOLING PAD - It provides more contact area of water molecules with air.
-It increase heat transfer rate.
2.FAN- -It supplies cold air to the room.
3.WATER PUMP -Its primary function is to circulate water over cooling pads.
4.WATER STORAGE TANK
- Capacity around 10 litres.
- used to store the water.
5.WATER LEVEL INDICATOR

6.ICE CHAMBER.
MODIFICATIONS :-
1.COOLING COIL:- Diameter=1cm, Length=200cm, Material=copper.
-Its main function is to provide maximum surface area for heat transfer
from hot fluid to cold fluid.

2.DRINKING WATER TANK:-To store drinking water.

3.WATER FEED PUMP:-Its main function is to circulate drinking water through cooling coil
with forced convection.
VIEWS
WORKING
Add adequate amount of water in the storage tank.

After providing power to water pump it starts circulate water through cooling pads.

Due to suction created by fan the air is sucked inside the cooler through cooling pads.

Where actual heat transfer taking place between air molecules and water molecules due to
evaporation of water.

Simultaneously circulation of drinking water through cooling pad.

Convection heat transfer between cold water and drinking water.

Mass flow rate of drinking water=0.0481kg/sec.

Discharge capacity of 0.12 liter/s

ADVANTAGES
Compact size.

Low power requirement.

Better result than traditional methods.

Low installing cost.

Low maintenance.

Portable and easy handling.

DISADVANTAGES
Humidity of air cannot be controlled.

Don’t get expected results in high humidity areas (costal area).

Separate power requirement for water pump.

Low space available for heat transfer.

CONCLUSION
From graphs we can conclude

1.Better air cooling results .

2.Better water cooling results .

3.Gives better water cooling results without altering air cooling rate.
