Summary
The teacher enters the classroom with a microbe picture and draws the attention of the children to the picture.
He/she starts a conversation about the visual when it attracts all children attention. He/she asks the kids what
he might be. He/she gives children enough time to think about it and share their ideas. Then he/she explains
what the microbe is and what it can cause. He talks about we need protection and how can we get rid of
microbes in our environment. After, he/she describes the cleaning materials used for this. Then teacher plays
the “Mr. Microbe” song and they sing the song together. Teacher shows the movements and dance together.
Teacher says that “let’s learn the materials that help us to get rid of microbes” and introduces the two baskets.
One of them is for body cleaning and the other is cleaning materials for environmental cleaning. Teacher gives
the materials to the children. They examine materials. They talk about the properties of these materials.
Children put materials for body cleaning in a basket and other materials in the other basket for environmental
cleaning, such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, toilet paper, nail clippers, comb, dust cloth, bucket,
broom, dustpan, water. Teacher and children check together whether the materials are placed in the correct
basket or not. The materials in both baskets are counted. In which basket there are more materials are spoken.
Children answer questions such as “What do we use for? “,” Why? “,” How do we use? that the teacher asks.
When they finish the activity, teacher can make the clean-up time. He/she make group of 5 children and say “It
is time for clean-up”. He/she distribute the materials which she chooses for children and is harmless and wants
them to clean their toys.
