 Charaka, Kashyapa, Astanga Hrdya(sh.1/62-63)

 Due to immaturity of the fetus , oja remain unstable it moves
form mother to fetus and from fetus to the mother through
rasa carrying channels. Due to this transfer of oja mother and
fetus become happy or dull alternately. If delivery take place
life of either mother or fetus is in danger.
 This month is not suitable for delivery

Astaangasamgraha (Sha.2/14)
 Oja of mother is stable only part of it is expelled to the fetus so
she become dull but doesn't die.

Conclusion
32

 Various Acharyas had described about the month wise

development of the fetus in Ayurveda since long period
ago.

 The concept forwarded by Acharyas are not so clear to

understand the actual changes occurring in intrauterine
life from fertilization till birth.

 some of the changes explained by Acharyas are found to

be similar to that of modern science and some can be
correlated with it by the basic concept of knowledge.

Dr. Jeevan Kumar Giri

Contd.
33

 The Acharyas explain that, there is appearance of the

kalala in the 1st month after fertilization –this may be
morulation or blastocyst stage

 In second month Acharyas give the idea about the sex

determination on the basis of shape of embryo.

 But the modern science tells, the determination of sex is

by the minute nuclear organelles lying inside nucleus of
sex cell i.e. chrosome. Male are the main sex determiner.

Dr. Jeevan Kumar Giri

Contd.
34

 In 5th month the auditory reflex, peripheral sensory

reflexes develops in certain extent –so mentioned the
enlighten of mana.

o 24 -25th weeks sensory & motor function attain some

maturity because Cerebral cortex are defined –so
development of buddhi.

Dr. Jeevan Kumar Giri

35

 There are still many points; those given by Acharyas,

these are difficult to explain & correlates in term of
modern applied science and need to undergo
research for their actual explanations.
