BRIEF DESCRIPTION

L131A1 general service pistol

1 The GLOCK G17 L131A1 Gen 4 pistol is a double action semi-automatic pistol manufactured
from steel and polymer. It is a lightweight pistol that combines safety, ease of operation and proven
durability.

2 There are two pistol variants which are listed below:

2.1 The L131A1 is the standard version of the pistol.

2.2 The L132A1 is the training version of the pistol.

3 The pistol fires from a mechanically locked breech and the automatic action of the mechanism
is achieved within a short recoil length. Common features of the L131A1 and L132A1 are listed below:

3.1 A holding open device is incorporated which retains the slide to the rear in the open
position when the last round from the magazine has been fired. This facility makes reloading
easy and fast.

3.2 The box type magazine is fitted into the butt of the pistol. The capacity of the magazine
is 17 rounds.

3.3 The sighting system consists of a blade front sight and a square notched rear sight, both
having a white mark to assist aiming. Zeroing is carried out by either lateral adjustment of the
rear sight or the fitting of a different height rear sight.

3.4 To enhance safety and handling, the pistols are fitted with a Safe Action® trigger system
with three internal safety mechanisms that are automatically engaged and work sequentially off
the movement of the trigger. The pistol is not fitted with an externally applied safety catch.

3.5 This system allows the trigger mechanism to reset with only a limited forward movement
of the trigger. It is not necessary to completely release the trigger in order to fire subsequent
shots.

L132A1 training pistol

4 The GLOCK G17T L132A1 Gen 4 Marker Round Training System (MRTS) semi-automatic
pistol is a weapon training system. The pistol has a number of safety features and is instantly
recognisable as a training pistol due to its predominantly blue colour. The L132A1 utilises many of
the same component parts as the L131A1 with the following exceptions:

4.1 The L132A1 slide has been engineered from polymer and steel components making the
TM.
assembly much lighter than the L131A1 slide. It will only accept Simunition or Force on
TM
Force marker training ammunition and is not compatible with the L131A1.
TM
4.2 The dual recoil spring assembly has been designed specifically for use with Simunition
TM
or Force on Force marker training ammunition and is therefore not compatible with the
L131A1.

4.3 The barrel of the L132A1 has been designed such that the marker training ammunition is
chambered at a different angle to the L131A1. The barrel is not compatible with the L131A1.

4.4 The L132A1 firing pin has been designed specifically to work with the L132A1 only.

4.5 The extractor has been designed specifically for marker training ammunition and is not
compatible with the L131A1.
4.6 The frame is coloured blue and engineered from polymer and steel components. It will
only function with L132A1 slide, barrel and recoil spring assembly.

4.7 The locking block has been designed to work only with the L132A1.

4.8 The magazine floor plate is coloured blue.

4.9 The slide lock is engineered to only function with the L132A1.

5 Like the L131A1, the L132A1 features interchangeable back straps to vary the circumference of
the frame. These are blue in colour and are not to be used with the L131A1. The Universal Cleaning
Kit is compatible with the L131A1 and L132A1 however bronze wire brushes may only be used for
cleaning the barrel bore of the L132A1 training pistol and nothing else.

CAUTION

The wire barrel brush should not be used to clean the L131A1 general
service pistol as it could harm the barrel and dam age the finish of the
weapon. Only the nylon barrel brush is authorised for use with the L131A1
general service pistol.

RADAR holster system

6 The holster system has been designed for the L131A1/L132A1 General Service Pistol and is a
key element of the overall R9GSP safety system as there is no integral safety catch fitted to the
L131A1/L132A1 General Service Pistol. The holster system consists of three main parts which are:

6.1 Holster (Level 2 or Level 3).

6.2 Leg Support.

6.3 Lanyard.

7 The holster can also be mounted on a cross MOLLE panel or belt mounted utilising an “S” loop
belt adaptor.

8 There are 3 levels of retention built into the holster system that a user can choose between
depending upon the mission profile.

8.1 Level 1 Retention – Pistol and lanyard only, i.e. un-holstered.

8.2 Level 2 Retention – Pistol in the holster locked in position by the Safe and Index
mechanism.

8.3 Level 3 Retention – Pistol in the holster locked in position by the Safe and Thumb
mechanism in combination with the Safe and Index mechanism.

9 The Rotating Disc Connection (RDC) allows the angle of the carried pistol to be adapted to the
needs of the user whether mounted to a leg support or a cross MOLLE panel.

®
Safe action trigger system

12 The "Safe Action®" trigger system provides a consistent trigger pull from the first to the last
round. Three automatic independently operating mechanical safeties are built into the fire control
system of the pistol. All three safeties disengage sequentially as the trigger is pulled and automatically
re-engage as the trigger is released. The pistol is safe if dropped and functional at temperatures from
®
-40°C to +50°C. The overall Safe Action trigger system is depicted in Fig 9 below.

®
Fig 9 Safe Action trigger system

WARNING

IF THE TRIGGER IS IN THE FORWARD POSITION, THE PISTOL MAY HAVE A ROUND IN
THE CHAMBER. CARRY OUT NORMAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS (NSP) TO ENSURE THE
WEAPON IS CLEAR.

Trigger Safety

13 The trigger safety is a lever incorporated into the trigger. When the trigger safety is in the
forward position it blocks the trigger from moving rearward. The trigger safety and the trigger must be
fully pressed at the same time to fire the pistol. If the trigger safety is not depressed, the trigger will
not move rearward and allow the pistol to fire. The trigger safety is designed to protect against firing if
the pistol is dropped or the trigger is subjected to lateral pressure.

Fig 10 Trigger safety

Firing pin safety

14 The firing pin safety mechanically blocks the firing pin from moving forward in the ready-to-fire
condition. As the trigger is pulled rearward the trigger bar pushes the firing pin safety up and frees the
firing pin channel. If the user decides not to fire and releases the trigger, the firing pin safety
automatically re-engages.

Fig 11 Firing pin safety

Drop safety

15 The trigger bar rests on the safety ramp within the trigger mechanism housing. The trigger bar
engages the rear portion of the firing pin and prevents the firing pin from moving forward. As the
trigger is pulled rearward the trigger bar lowers down the safety ramp and allows the release of the
firing pin. After firing, the trigger bar moves upward and re-engages the firing pin.

HOLSTER SYSTEM

16 The holster system has been designed specifically for the L131A1/L132A1 General Service
semi-automatic 9 mm pistol and is a key element of the overall R9GSP safety system as there is no
integral safety catch fitted to the L131A1/L132A1 General Service Pistol. It enables the pistol to be
carried in a variety of different positions safely and comfortably, at the same time allowing the pistol to
be readily accessible when required. The holster system consists of three main parts which are:

16.1 Holster (Level 2 or Level 3).

16.2 Leg Support.

16.3 Lanyard.
17 The main parts of the holster system are shown in Fig 13 below.

19 There are 3 levels of retention built into the holster system that a user can choose between
depending upon the mission profile.

19.1 Level 1 Retention – Pistol and lanyard only; i.e. un-holstered.

19.2 Level 2 Retention – Pistol in the Level 2 holster locked in position by the Safe and Index
(S&I) mechanism.

19.3 Level 3 Retention – Pistol in the Level 3 holster locked in position by the Safe and
Thumb (S&T) mechanism in combination with the Safe and Index mechanism.

20 The Rotating Disc Connection (RDC) allows the angle of the carried pistol to be adapted to the
needs of the user whether mounted to a leg support or a cross MOLLE panel.

Holster

21 The holster is manufactured from injection moulded polymer to fit the shape of the pistol. When
the pistol is holstered a number of locking mechanisms (dependent on the holster) prevent the pistol
from falling out or being removed by third parties. The holster system is only compatible with the
L13A1 general service pistol and the L132A1 training pistol.

Level 2 safe and index holster

Refer to Fig 15:

22 The Level 2 holster primary safety device acts directly on the pistol ejection port, locking the
pistol into the holster. The safety device engages when the pistol is inserted into the holster and is
disengaged by pressing the Fast Index Lever Assembly (normally with the index finger of the firing
hand).

23 There is an additional adjustable mechanical retention device that operates directly on the
trigger guard of the pistol. A factory pre-set retention screw located in the lower part of the holster is
used by an armourer to adjust this device when required. The device engages when the pistol is
inserted into the holster.

25 The Level 3 holster (S&T) includes all the features of the Level 2 (S&I) holster including the
retention device and drain hole and has with the following additional features:
25.1 A locking hood at the top of the holster acts against the rear of the pistol slide. The
release button is located between the holster body and the RDC. The locking hood engages
when the pistol is inserted into the holster and is disengaged by pressing the release button
(normally with the thumb of the firing hand). The hood also aids in the prevention of ingress of
dirt into the holster and can be engaged by hand if desired.

25.2 To release the pistol from a Level 3 holster, both locking mechanisms must be released
(normally with the thumb and index finger of the firing hand).

Rotating Disc Connection (RDC)

Refer to Fig 19:

26 The Rotating Disc Connection (RDC) is a quick release system for holsters and accessories
that allows the change from one support to another (leg supports, belt loops, chest panels fitted with
the "MOLLE" system) in a quick, safe and practical way. It consists of two parts:

26.1 The male part of the RDC is composed of a rotating disc which has twelve
inclination/rotation positions and clicks forwards and backwards with 30° steps. The male part
of the RDC is permanently fixed to the holster assembly.

26.2 The female part of the RDC is part of the several wearable supports (duty belts, tactical
vests, leg kits) and allows connection of holsters and other accessories to these supports.
