“READERS”
I have got to admit that we have the best darn readers in the
world!! And the thing is ... I know exactly how your little
minds work!! I had absolute faith that at least one person
would have the obsolete tires that I was looking for and sure
enough within 24 hours of the Sussex Herald hitting the
street I had my tires all lined up and within another 24 hours
they were resting in my back yard. Thank you Lloyd!!!!
Now one of the problems going out into the rural areas to
meet with readers is how humble you soon become!! My wife
has always professed amazement (along with some alarm) at
the number of "toys" that I have. So I have been pretty cocky
about how well equipped I was for just about anything. An
hour's visit with my new friend Lloyd, however, changed my
whole self image. Sitting on the porch, the first thing I
noticed is that he has four tractors while I only have two.
Once we got off the porch and into some of his buildings,
things went downhill rapidly. If I had three of something
Lloyd had five or even more. Whether it was welding helmets,
grinders, pipe wrenches or just about anything else ... I was
totally out gunned.!!!
I feel fortunate in one way that the missus wasn't there to see
my downfall but on the other hand she would have seen first
hand what a real collector should have. A few days later, the
missus did go with me as I once again ventured out into our
rural heartland. This trip was to pick up a snow blower for my

THE STORY OF THE
REMEMBRANCE DAY POPPY
“ONE FLOWER SAYS IT ALL”
The artificial poppies that are distributed during the Remembrance period
is a tradition that began in 1918 as a memorial to those who died in World
War One. Today we wear the poppy as a reminder of the horrors of conflict
and the beauties of peace. It is the symbol of the sacrifice of all those who We do

The poem was published anonymously in the United Kingdom’s “Punch”
magazine issue of December 8, 1915. McCrae died of pneumonia on
January 28, 1918, months before large-scale fighting in the Flanders area
took place.
The poem was reprinted in the “Ladies Home Journal” in 1918, where

WHAT’S ON FOR TEENS AT THE KV
LIBRARY
1 Landing Court, Quispamsis, 849-5314
At the Kennebecasis Public Library there are plenty of
resources available for teens. The library has a section of
books entirely devoted to young adults. This section has
everything from graphic novels to teen magazines, and
novels. Some items in the young adult section include
popular graphic novels such as the “Naruto” series by
Japanese author Masashi Kishimoto (YA GR F KIS), and
teen magazines such as “Rolling Stone” and “Seventeen
Magazine” are always in stock. There are many well known
series in the young adult section such as the extremely
popular “Twilight” series by Stephanie Meyer (YA F MEY),
the “Fear Street” series by R. L. Stein (YA F STI), and the
“Gossip Girl” series by Cecily von Ziegesar (YA F VON). No
matter where one’s interests lie, there is sure to be
something to fit everybody’s taste.
Besides offering some great reads, for young adults, the
library also serves as a great place to study during the
school year. There are comfy couches, and tables all
around the library to work at. The library is a perfect place
to meet up with a group for a study session, or take
advantage of the library’s quiet private study rooms. There
are also computers to use and wireless internet for
laptops.
Another option for teens at the library is our ‘Volunteen’
program, which runs all year. During the fall, teens can
volunteer to do various library tasks from book mending,
shelving, craft preparation and more. As well, ‘Volunteens’
can take part in the Reading Buddies program, where they
are teamed up with a younger ‘buddy’ to help with reading
and comprehension. For more information about options
for teens at the Kennebecasis Public Library check us out
on the web at www.kvlibrary.org, or stop by the library or
give us a call.
