Do we really have time for this?

My personal philosophy is that we don’t have time for philosophy. Why is it so important
to wonder why we are here and what it means? Shouldn’t we just enjoy our time and not
overthink it? I don’t think everyone should have the same philosophy either. You should believe
whatever helps you get through the day. Whether that is being religious transcendentalist,
existentialist, or another. The purpose of philosophy is to justify why we are here on earth and
create a reason, I believe there is no reason and my existence just happened with a bit of luck.
Spending time philosophising seems like a waste of time to me. If my view is wrong, my stance
doesn’t change. For me it doesn’t matter why I’m here. Just that I am here and don’t waste my
opportunity to do what I love and am passionate about.

The most important aspect of my philosophy is the idea that why we are here doesn’t
matter. If I knew we were on this earth for a reason, I would not change my habits. My meaning
in life comes from fulfilling every moment and living my best life. We should not sit idle out of
fear of what happens after we are gone. Focusing more on the present then the past or the
future so you can truly appreciate every good moment without setting your expectations too
high.

Having this as my philosophy has made this hard to write and I think my actions have
show this. A lot of my identity comes from me as a mountain biker and I will freely admit, this
paper is not as good as It could be due to fact that while I was procrastinating writing this paper.
I was traveling around, living out of my van every weekend, doing what I truly love. I’d much
rather be spending my time out experiencing the world, both its ups and downs, my crashes and
successes then spend that time questioning why I exist.
Whether I am lined up about to start a race, or out with friends hitting stupid big jumps, I
have never felt as at home as I do on my bike and because of my philosophy. I feel my time is
better spent doing this than anything else in the world. What I have noticed from this is how this
has shaped everything I do. The reason I get good grades is so my parents give me the
freedom to do this. It’s like the desert after the vegetables. I know that I need to do everyday
tasks and don’t really mind them because I know I can ride after. Looking into my philosophy
made me wonder where it came from. What let me know that this was my passion? It all goes
back to the people I’ve met through bikes. From coaches to friends, and other racers, my life
has been shaped by these people and this sport.

I believe everyone has this passion for something, and not all of us are able to find it. So
instead of us searching for what put us here and whatever moral dilemmas this causes, we
should focus on enjoying our time here. Finding our passions and focusing on fulfilling them in
the present is my focus. I don't think it should be everyone's, because everyone's philosophy
should be personalized.
