This survey was used to increase knowledge in fields concerning family issues specifically”

Parental influence on academic performance of their children” and it was conducted to


assess thoughts, opinions, and feelings of students that are still following their education in
school or university.

Participants:

The study consisted of a “monkey survey” that targeted 25 students from different fields
and majors. 22 students out of 25 filled out the survey of which the majority 90.91% were
17-20 years old and the minority 8% were between 15-17, this induce that 100% attend
university specifically LAU knowing that the survey was conducted in and English 202 class
at LAU. The sample size was divided upon their academical standing, 54.55% have a good
standing, 32.82% have a very good standing and 13.64% have an excellent academical
standing. Concerning the effect of parent involvement on the academical outcome of
children, 59.09% experienced this involvement and 40.91% did not experience this
involvement. Moreover, the majority responded that this involvement has a positive effect
on them while the minority had a negative involvement.

Survey:

Participants completed a “monkey survey” anonymously with the approval of the English
department to this type of survey and method. This survey consisted of 7 questions, 6 of
which were Likert-scale questions and one open ended question.The first 2 questions were
demographic questions related to age and the attendance of school or university. The next 3
questions were related to the involvement and relationship of parents with their children
and its effect on their educational outcome, such as, “Does your relationship with your
parents affect your academic life outcomes in any way?”. The last question was an open-
ended question to emphasis the opinion of each individual that completed the survey: “In
your opinion, is the relationship between children and parents and parent’s motivation an
important factor for your good academical outcome? Why?”

Procedure:

Participants were specifically selected to complete the monkey online survey which
consisted of 7 questions. The monkey link was shared via mail and participants were kindly
asked not to share it with anyone outside the English 202 class. The completion of the
survey was voluntary and free and confidential specially that no name, id or number were
asked in the survey.

Data analysis:

Data was analyzed by the monkey survey site itself, which can be used to conduct a survey
and analyze the data with an outcome of the full statistics and percentages. The results
were presented in charts and bar graphs forms with their specifics statistics. This analytical
and statistical outcome on the monkey site facilitated the result and data analysis.
