2. Answer all Questions in section A and four (4) Question in section B.

3. All communication devices and calculators are not allowed in the examination room.

4. All necessary working and answers for each question done must be shown clearly.

SECTION A

(b) Rewrite |2x + 3| < 7 without the absolute value sign and hence sketch the graph of the resulting in
equality.
9. A function is defined by f(x) = x2 – 2. Find

13. (a) (i) Given the nth term of a sequence 3𝑛2 −1 write down the first three terms of the sequence.

(ii) Given 12, 5, -2, - - - write the nth term of the sequences.
(b) (i) The sum of the eighth term and tenth term of the A.P is 28. And the sum of the first ten
terms are 35. Find the first term and the common difference
( ii) Blocks are piled in a form of pyramid such as way that the bottom row has 80 blocks
and each row thereafter has 2 fewer blocks that the row direct below it. If at the top
there are only 4 blocks. Find the total number of bocks in the bunch.

14. 9(a) (i) Linear function f(x) is such that f (2) = 14 and f(-2) = 2. Find f(x) and f(0).
(ii) Write down domain and range of f(x) = 2 – 3x2.

15. (a) The number of tablets given to patient was found to be directly proportional to the weight of the patient.
If a patient with 36kg was given 9 tablets, find how many tables would be given to a patient whose weight is
48kg.
(b) The compression l of string is directly proportional to the thrust, T-newton exerted on it. If a thrust of 2
newtons produces a compression of 0.4cm find
i) The compression when the thrust is 5 newtons.
ii) The thrust when the compression is 0.7cm.
16. (a) (1,2), (2, 1), (-3, -5), ( -3, 4), (2,2) (-8,0), (-8, -3). Which of the ordered pairs belongs to the Relation?

(b)Given that X𝜖A where A = {-2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3} draw a pictorial representative of the relation R: X →2x – 1.
