The figure shows provides a visual summary of some ways in which the
acoustical properties can be improved
Figure shows a sample of wall types ranging from the
lowest to the highest sound insulation values.
This system utilizes Acoustic Mineral Wool,
Resilient Bars and acoustic plasterboard. The
perimeter and all joints on first layer off board will
be sealed with acoustic mastic.
Rubber mats are fixed to existing walls.
Two layers of 12.5mm acoustic plasterboard are
added for final noise barrier.
The wall face will be removed to expose void
between existing batons and acoustic mineral wool
installed in void. Resilient bars will be installed on
the batons. These systems utilize Acoustic Mineral
Wool, Resilient Bars and acoustic plasterboard. The
perimeter and all joints on first layer off board will
be sealed with acoustic mastic.
The main aim of this system is to reduce “the
speaker box effect” that the cavity between
batons creates. The wall face will be removed to
expose the voids between existing batons.
Acoustic mineral wool gets installed in these
voids.
An acoustic plasterboard is installed directly to
the batons. This system utilize Acoustic Mineral
Wool and acoustic plasterboard.
The perimeter and all joints on first layer of board
will be sealed with acoustic mastic.
A new frames with added resilient bars is built
away from the existing wall.
This system utilise acoustic mineral wool and two
layers of acoustic plasterboard
The perimeter and all joints on first layer off board
will be sealed with acoustic mastic.
• Independent Wall System can be applied to any
wall structure. A frame with added resilient bars is
built away from the existing wall.
• This allows the wall to reduce both vibration and
impact noise penetration to substantially improve
the sound insulating qualities of the wall.
Bar Installation:
The bars should be fixed to joists or battens using
either drywall or self drilling screws below ceiling
joists and on timber stud walls.
Plasterboard:
A double layer of plasterboard, or similar
composite, should be used and fitted to within the
surrounding walls.
Edge Sealant:
Sealant should be applied to all the edge
perimeters after the installation of each layer to
achieve optimum results.
The characteristic of impact noise depend
on the floor structure. Impact sounds
on concrete slabs finished with a hard
surface such as ceramic tile can be
described by terms such as click, clack
or sharp tap. Most of the energy of
such sounds occurs at high frequencies.
Timber floating floor
Carpet
Underlayment
Timber floating board will installed at
existing floor surface such as concrete
surface with underlayment.
Surface sealed wood flooring is easy and
inexpensive to maintain by regular
sweeping or vacuum cleaning.
Damage to timber floors may occur due
to continual movement of furniture, or
heavy foot traffic.
Approximate IIC ratings for a 150-mm-thick concrete slab with various kinds of
toppings.
Usage of underlayment will increase the
IIC and STC.
