Reflection

Proud Essay

An essay I’m most proud of would have to be my five page argument about trophy

hunting. I wanted to challenge myself by writing an argument from a less supported side of view

of being in favor of hunting. Although I personally don’t favor trophy hunting, I enjoyed writing

that argument while researching and learning new things. For writing that over two years ago, I

feel that my writing style in that essay is the best compared to my other essays at the time. I

remember having to research that argument for a long time and also having to type rough drafts

and revise, and as a result I feel that essay is one of my strongest, especially at that time.

Growth over the Years

I know I have grown to be willing to learn in classes I may have no particular interest in.

Before, classes that didn’t interest me I tuned out and focused on other things, but as time went

on I feel that I embraced all of my classes and became well-rounded as a result of that. I am now

willing to listen and learn from all of the classes I take and not play favoritism. An example

would be in history classes, it may be my least favorite subject, but as years went by I made a

conscious decision to learn from it and not tune out. Same goes for French, because I took it as a

necessity but I ended up paying attention to that class over the years and now I find French a

very fascinating language.

Opportunity for Growth

I feel like I have room to grow in classes that do a lot of work. I’m good at taking tests

and quizzes but I’m not good when it comes to doing class work, and it shows in classes that

have more work, like English, than classes that have more tests, like math. I realize that I’m

terrible at doing class work at home, and that is why I suffer in some homework centered classes.

I hope to grow out of this and come to the realization that I can’t hold off doing work forever. I

wish to practice this and be able to spend my time wisely.

Preparation for the Future

Great Oak High School has prepared me for my future by having advanced classes

available to take and by giving college advice because I knew I wanted to go into college but I

had no idea how or what it takes. Great Oak helped me get ready for college by having

college-level classes, such as AP classes and ERWC, and by having practice opportunities for

those advanced classes. The staff at Great Oak also helped me greatly. Because of them, I was

able to get answers to questions I had about college and got recommendations on what to do.
