Collect of the Day

O GOD, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your
kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and
exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

The First Lesson is written in the Sixteenth Chapter of The Acts of the Apostles, beginning at the
Sixteenth verse.
As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination
and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These
men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.” And this she kept
doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command
you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas
and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. And when they had brought them to the
magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. They advocate customs
that are not lawful for us as Romans to accept or practice.” The crowd joined in attacking them, and
the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. And when they had
inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them
safely. Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the
stocks.
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners
were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison
were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were
unfastened. When the jailer woke and saw that the prison doors were open, he drew his sword and was
about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do
not harm yourself, for we are all here.” And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling
with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I
do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your
household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took
them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his
family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with
his entire household that he had believed in God.

The Lesson appointed for the Epistle is written in the Twenty-Second Chapter of the Book of
Revelation, beginning at the Tenth Verse.
And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let
the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still
be holy.”
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what
he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and
that they may enter the city by the gates. Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral
and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the
root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the
one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them,
God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of
the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which
are described in this book.
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

Administration of Holy Communion
It is the custom of this Church that all baptized persons who come in faith and penitence are welcome to
receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. One may receive the wine either by intinction (dipping the
wafer in the cup) or drinking it directly from the common cup. Children and adults who do not wish to
receive Communion may come for a blessing, signifying this by crossing your arms across your chest.
(Consecrated gluten-free wafers are available simply by indicating the need for such to the priest.)

The intelligensia tell us that the world is mundane, ordinary, everyday. But that's
not the way the world actually is. In truth, the world is mysterious, beautiful,
enchanted. To use the proper word, the cosmos is sacred. How can we begin to
see and delight in the world the same way Jesus does? How can we join with God
and others to re-enchant the world? We'll explore these questions in this lecture.

Bio:
Paul M. Gould (PhD Purdue University) is a visiting research fellow at Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School's Henry Center and the founder and president of the
Two Tasks Institute. He is the author or editor of ten books including Cultural
Apologetics (Zondervan, 2019). He is married to Ethel, has four kids, and lives in
