LEO or Lower Earth Orbit:
A low Earth orbit (LEO) is an orbit around Earth with an altitude of
2,000 km or less, and with an orbital period of between about 84 and 127
minutes. Objects below approximately 160 km will experience very rapid
orbital decay and altitude loss due to atmospheric drag.
Geosynchronous Orbit:
A geosynchronous orbit is a high Earth orbit that allows satellites to
match Earth's rotation. Located at 22,236 miles (35,786 kilometers) above
Earth's equator, this position is a valuable spot for monitoring weather,
communications and surveillance.
“Because the satellite orbits at the same speed that the Earth is turning, the
satellite seems to stay in place over a single longitude, though it may drift
north to south,” NASA wrote on its Earth Observatory website.
Thrust to weight ratio:
Thrust-to-weight ratio is a dimensionless ratio of thrust to weight of a
rocket, jet engine, propeller engine, or a vehicle propelled by such an engine
that indicates the performance of the engine or vehicle.
The instantaneous thrust-to-weight ratio of a vehicle varies continuously
during operation due to progressive consumption of fuel or propellant and
in some cases a gravity gradient. The thrust-to-weight ratio based on initial
thrust and weight is often published and used as a figure of merit for
quantitative comparison of the initial performance of vehicles.
Sabatier process:
The Sabatier reaction or Sabatier process was discovered by the
French chemist Paul Sabatier in the 1910s. It involves the reaction of
hydrogen with carbon dioxide at elevated temperatures (optimally 300–400
°C) and pressures in the presence of a nickel catalyst to produce methane
and water. Optionally, ruthenium on alumina (aluminium oxide) makes a
more efficient catalyst. It is described by the following exothermic reaction:
(some initial energy/heat is required to start the reaction)
