Action Plan
The objective of this project was to help raise awareness for the young girls and teens in
Sub-Saharan Africa that are forced into marriages everyday by older men, family members, and
communities. My goal was to raise enough awareness that may spark a change in way certain
traditions are viewed and practiced. I want to help liberate these young girls from the demanding
life as a wife and mother at such a young age. I hope that by exploring and exposing the reasons
behind this horrendous practice that I can in some way not only spread awareness but encourage
others to join and help fight for these young girls as well.
My community is filled with thousands of people who are privileged with the freedom to
marry whoever they want after they have already finished their education and are adults. Many
people don’t realize this and might not be aware of the struggles of girls their age and younger. I
think people should stop taking their freedoms for granted and help others who may not have a
voice to fight for what's right. We are all people no matter what country or region we are from and
everyone deserves the same rights no matter their gender, therefore people from all across our
country who have freedoms should work to help those who were stripped of those same valuable
freedoms.
Slowly people have been realizing the horrors of forced child marriages and there are
organizations out there with intent to also help the innocent brides. However while their efforts

have been felt they only made a small impact on a huge problem. The rooting cause of this issue
stems from poverty, lack of education, lack of strict laws which protect females, and ancient
Scholars all across the globe agree that one possible answer could be to educate girls all
across the African continent. Studies which are outlines in previous blog posts of mine have found
that girls enrolled in educational programs and schools are less likely to be forced into marriage.
More possible solutions may be to form laws in African countries that higher the age of consent to
marriage and sex, making it illegal for teens and young children to get married. There is however
the fact that many if these forced marriages are taking place in rural areas where traditions are
followed strictly and it will be very hard to eradicate customs. The idea of educating these young
girls could be very beneficial as education can be focused on the topics of the dangers of early
marriage and sex at a young age and the dangers and risks of pregnancy as an adolescent.
While there are organizations which already focus on educating young girls , I think the
more people who try to do the same then the faster we can solve this crisis. My proposal is to raise
money for that will then be used to build schools in Africa and pay for education supplies and
teachers. If as a community, country, or globe we can raise enough money we could afford to build
small schools and buy supplies such as updated textbooks, chalk boards, desks and chairs, note
books, pencils, even computers and electrical devices for the young girls to further their learning
deeper and share the stories of what is happening in their communities which could raise even
more awareness. If the girls had computers and radios and tvs to see what great things women from
all across the world have done and accomplished they can be inspired to want to fight for their
rights even more and focus even harder on their educations. As years go by with a new generation
